Makeover Thursday!
A lovely bedframe in my absolute favorite bird’s eye maple. It was a project piece my dear friend was working on but life got in the way. I was happy to complete her project. The bird’s eye grain now pops and the yellow tones subtly softened with a gentle brown wash.

Makeover Thursday!
Today’s feature is an antique trunk that has been owned by the same family for generations. It had musty smells, a missing interior tray and rotted leather handles; not to mention a worn out appearance overall.
The goal was to eliminate the odors so it could be useful for storage of family historical items and light restoration.
Rose Bud Interiors sealed the interior to preserve the paper decorations and block odors. The base paper was recovered in new embossed paper for greater durability. A new coat of vibrant blue matches the blue details in the original top design and adds a punch of fun.
The exterior received a careful cleaning and removal of the padlock hardware that was not original. A red base color on the embossed metal was revealed in sections that had less wear. This was restored with a red glaze technique. The wood was refreshed with stain and a clear coat was applied inside and outside.
New leather handles were attached to the sides and a new tray fabricated to increase functionality for storage.
Perfect as a cherished keepsake as well as useful odor free storage.

Furniture Care
People often ask me how to best care for their wood furniture to ensure it looks it’s best.
Things I do NOT recommend are:
1- Spray polishes Pledge that contain silicone or lemon oil. The polish builds up on the furniture and actually holds dirt. The silicone and oil seeps through wear and scratches into the wood which contaminates it and makes it very difficult to refinish in the future.
2- “Restoration” wipes that are being marketed by social influencers as a way to repair discolored and dull furniture. These products are a temporary wax and non-drying oil that does not form a hard finish. It again seeps into the wood which contaminates it and will look good only temporarily.

I DO suggest to care for your furniture:
1- Dust with a clean microfiber cloth.
2- If you want a polish use Guardsman brand which does not have silicone.
3- If furniture looks dirty, has finger prints or spills; clean with a damp cloth using a mild solution of dish soap to degrease and then dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
4- Use coasters to prevent scratches and water marks.
5- Move around lamps and other objects you routinely keep on furniture. This will even out sun fading and prevent dark areas under a lamp or decorative object.

If you have questions about how to care for your wood furniture please contact me. I will do updates on my Facebook site regarding frequently asked questions.

Another Lane Acclaim Makeover
An inherited pair of Acclaim step tables had definitely seen better days and were overdue for refinishing. In the workshop the tops were removed and a the remaining finish stripped off. Wood bleaching removed the water stains and made the raw wood a more uniform color. Because the wood had been contaminated by use of furniture polish the tops needed to be sealed before a new finish could be applied. Custom tinted top coats of water based varnish were sprayed on until the desired original color was achieved. The leg tips were repainted black and everything got clear top coats.
The tables are now free from scratches, water marks, dings and flaking finish. Ready to be used for another 50 years.

Makeover Thursday!
Little pieces of furniture often get overlooked. They hold our books, beverages or a plant over the years. But then one day you realize that handy table needs some love!
A visit to Rose Bud Interiors resulted in this little table looking better than new. The teak wood grain shines now and the legs are sturdy once more. Danish oil and a final coat of hand rubbed oil varnish for durability will ensure this quiet unassuming table will be noticed once again.

Makeover Thursday!
I don’t do much upholstery work, only my regular customers or family. This piece was for family, a lovely old settee that needed an update.
Switched out old 1960’s velvet for a fresh sapphire blue. Isn’t she sweet!?

Makeover Thursday!
I love Mid Century Modern furniture, and this Acclaim coffee table is a classic. Described by the owner as the only coffee table he knew growing up. His request was to refinish the table so it would be beautiful, durable and useful for use in his home. He wanted the distinctive inlay design on the table to match the original medium contrast wood tones.
The joints were re-gluing, some animal chew marks disguised, and a full refinishing was completed. The black leg tips were re-painted and it now looks like new.

Makeover Thursday!
Have you ever seen a piece of furniture at a sale and wondered if it could be beautiful again? My customer picked this MCM piece on vacation and asked me to try to restore it.
The metal trim is solid brass so it cleaned up well. The wood is walnut and after very carefully removing the failing finish to not go through the thin veneer it was re-stained and clear coated with hand rubbed varnish.

Makeover Thursday!
A little toy box was lovingly made by a grandfather many years ago. It was destined for the toss pile when it was discovered that a new great grand child was on the way. Rose Bud Interiors was asked to refurbished the toy box with a coat of white paint and add a child safe hinge.
Repairs were made to replace the broken base with four cute little bun feet. Trim added to cover plywood joints and a smooth coat of white enamel gives the once humble box some up to date style. Handles were added to the sides and all the hardware given a coat of matching metallic paint. A child safe close hold hinge is the finishing touch.

Makeover Thursday!
I have never seen a table that the legs are hinged to use as a coffee table or a card table. Ingenious!
It had been languishing for decades in a basement under stacks of papers that became stuck to the top.
I carefully stripped the top to remove the paper residue and old varnish that obscured the beautiful burled veneer pattern. After cleaning everything, lubricating the mechanical parts, and re-staining it got four coats of polyurethane. Beautiful! You can’t buy something like this now, well worth the effort to bring it back to life.

Makeover Thursday!
A great piece of furniture can be a bargain from a consignment store or resale shop. Think out of the box.
This piece is solid!!!! but the wrong color. Too expensive to strip and start over I was able to sand or fill in dents and scratches from use. It was sprayed with multiple dark translucent top coats to smooth it all out and match the new owners inspiration picture. New hardware completed the updated and sleek look.
