1 step closer to organizing my new sewing room. This is my solution to storing & displaying my quilting cotton yardage in the only space left in my sewing room…the closet (door removed).
Originally, I wanted to hang my quilting cotton from the metal rungs of each shelf. I soon realized it would be extremely difficult to fold the fabric to fit the narrow rungs.
I opted instead to repurpose the small cardboard dividers from my cat’s canned food packaging. I had been saving them for quite a while. I wrap the fabric around the small cardboard dividers to create mini bolts without adding bulk.
This is how I organized the shelves: top shelf - bolts; 2nd shelf - Asian inspired prints; 3rd shelf - Black/White & Neutral prints; 4th shelf - Panels and Blue, Teal & Green prints; 5th shelf - Florals & Misc. prints; 6th shelf - Licensed & Children’s prints and Cotton Canvas.
I put my heavier weight fabrics in the cabinet shown here. I store my rolls of leather & vinyl in tall plastic laundry bins.
