Nobody plans to coat their garage floor twice.

On a recent MACH ONE project, a two-car garage had been resurfaced with DIY store-bought epoxy products. Over the years, the floor peeled up significantly.

If you're getting quotes on a floor that's already been coated once, ask what the contractor plans to do about the old coating before they price the new one. The answer tells you a lot about how the job will go.

Before: A bare garage slab with nothing between the concrete and the moisture that naturally works its way up from below.

After: A moisture barrier laid down first, then a Cabin Fever flake system and a polyaspartic top coat, installed by the MACH ONE crew.

The barrier is the part that never shows up in an after photo, but it's the reason the coating on top of it won't bubble or peel the way it can without one. Skip that step, and the finish is only as good as the slab's ability to stay dry underneath.

Concrete slabs release moisture from underneath long after they're poured, and that moisture can make epoxy coatings fail if you don't prepare for it.

The MACH ONE crew started this garage floor project with a moisture v***r barrier, then installed a 1/4-inch Feather Gray flake blend and a polyaspartic top coat.

The barrier is one version of prep that never shows up in the after photos and often matters the most.

Casemate Museum sits inside a fort at Fort Monroe, Virginia, and its exhibit rooms see a steady stream of visitors year round. Old concrete under that kind of traffic gets slick, stained, and hard to keep looking presentable.

A very special congratulations to Olive and her warrior, Michael, on their graduation from K9s For Warriors!
