Memorial Day is a day to be celebrated.

My dad served in the Army and my Papa served in the Coast Guard. I’ve been so lucky to have the best parts of these two men woven into who I am. Strong, steady, hardworking, and always showing up for the people they love.

Remembering and honoring them today and everyday. 🇺🇸

The joys of our job? When we find something we like but it isn’t totally right for the space - you go custom! We found a wallpaper we really liked but the colors and scale just didn’t work with the rug we already purchased. SO many samples later that were generally right but just didn’t work.

‘We’ve got people’ is never so much more true than with interior designers. Here, my secret weapon was Katie from my team who also designed this interior alongside me. What you might not know is Katie is an artist as well and in the early seasons of Farmhouse Fixer she painted a huge amount of the artwork you saw on the show! (legal rights to use … thats a WHOLE other topic!)

On this more modern project we got to have her bring that same skill set into this more illustrative, wallpaper-focused direction. Katie got to completely disappear down the rabbit hole of process on this one.

Rather than working with paints she started with hand-sketching every single swimmer individually on her iPad before moving into digital illustration and composition in Procreate. From there it became a whole lot of experimenting with scale, spacing, color, and yes... endless rounds of renderings and samples until it felt just right.

The goal was never to make it feel overly perfect or computer-generated. We wanted it to feel playful, custom, and really connected to the home itself. The kind of detail you may not notice immediately, but once you do... you can’t imagine the space without it.

Good job .dezign!

Stay with me while I geek out about process…

Ever wonder what’s going on inside Kristina’s brain? Welp. Here it is.

A behind-the-scenes look at me measuring with absolute precision and laying out this hanging buoy art piece on the floor first. (Not pictured: me stepping back 47 times to make sure it’s juuuust right.)

The goal is always for a space to feel collected and easy, even though there’s an alarming amount of math going on.

For when you build a tiny home and realize the kids need somewhere to sleep when they visit... 🫣

A trundle bed, office space, hidden storage, and enough personality to make every square foot count. The polka dots were a non-negotiable for Katie and I!

.antique.flea.market, we meet again. 💙

The early mornings, the muddy fields, the iced coffees balancing on top of furniture finds, the “should we get it?” conversations that somehow always turn into loading something oversized into the car.

Consider this my Brimfield Market Survival Guide. Planning your trip for tomorrow? Save this post for your last minute check list—trust me!

My job is technical and takes years and years of experience to learn so many points. But some things... Not so hard.

Grout color… how do we choose you say? The squint test.

Stick with me, I am not joking.

I like when grout disappears as best as possible. With blue tile? Not as easy. I quite literally pull tones closest to the tile, put them on the sample, and squint. The one that disappears the most wins! Feel free to steal this tip! 😀

I’ve always said I hate porcelain tile. Capital H. Then on a few past Farmhouse Fixer projects, convinced me to give it a shot.

Turns out, the best design decisions sometimes come from challenging your own rules. Never say never to something you think you dislike. The right application can change everything. ☺️

Oh how do I count the ways I love an Eames chair? Truly, ALL the ways. 😍

This girl does not have nearly enough time in the day to itemize them out. Just know this… if there is even the slightest chance one of these chairs can work in a corner, by a fireplace, at the end of a hall, or really anywhere at all... it. is. happening.

A plain leather Eames? Gosh no. Why would I ever choose the easy route?!? 🫠 Much better to order one as is and then immediately start thinking about how to have it locally reupholstered...totally.

And when I cannot find my husband (who was supposed to be helping me install art as I’m writing this caption), alas, there he is. Sitting in the Eames chair.

So are we done with barn doors? I mean sometimes I am like please please please no more barn doors. That being said I am still doing them. 😆

Why? Well there is lots of practicality to be considered. Oh and aesthetics, that too....

Practicality - Does a swinging door get in the way enough that it makes the space hard to use or even just annoying? Is there a reason you can’t do a pocket door? On this cottage project one bathroom handles both rooms and gets lots of traffic, a swinging door in the way was the first thing to go. Compound that with a wall mount toilet in the one direction we could put a pocket door - nope. The wall framing was taken up for the toilet tank so no go on the pocket door. The floor plan and thinking through the space led to this decision.

Aesthetics - When we’re looking to add age and character repurposing a door can add that layer easily. In a project like this that is more modern we used it to add a layer of color to the hall.
