Cheers to getting back into a normal routine! 🙌🏻 Whether you already have a quiet designated homework spot, or you’re using your dining room table so you can monitor while you prep dinner and take care of other kiddos- you’ve got this!
✨Tips from an ADHD-er former teacher turned interior designer🤪
✅ Keep it consistent. Kids LOVE a routine. Try to do homework in the same spot every evening.
✅Visual Clutter- keep only what they need out. One thing at a time.
✅ Cool Tones- Blues and greens help calm the brain and promote focus.
✅Comfortable Seating- Pillows, bean bag, exercise ball.
✅ Lighting- Overhead as well as task lighting to reduce eye strain. There are so many cute, rechargeable lamps out there! Let the kids pick if it’s their own personal work space.
✅Timers and Breaks- I know I need them🙋🏻♀️ They need them even more! Whether it’s chunking little sections of one worksheet or sight words, or chunking one subject at a time.
✅ Let. Them. Struggle. This is the most important (and something I absolutely struggle with as a parent!) Hard but this is how they learn! Try not to step in right away- the teacher needs to know what THEY know.
