This album I bought from Tower Records on Hawthorne Blvd released me fromthe musical trappings that someone from the South Bay may become bound by. This album combined with a broken heart forever changed my musical world 26 years ago. I can’t recommend it enough just wait Wait til it to cools down, it’s Radiohead and does not mix well with the heat.

Back in the 90’s I like many other outlaw South Bay kids were tattooed in the alley at Gary’s on Palm in Hermosa when it was illegal and still very frowned upon. Today we spent 4 beers time hanging out in the old vegetarian SPOT now Proudly Serving with the cats of Third Street Tattoo watching Nolan Duran tattoo at anniversary. Hermosa has changed for sure in many regards.

Last night, the City Council unanimously voted to approve Phase 1 renovations of the Seaside Lagoon. No, it does not include a wave pool. That was never on the table. The idea was raised during the discussion, but Phase 1 is focused on the much-needed renovations to the Lagoon. Some speakers opposed to Phase 1 argued that the city is incapable of meeting their expectations for amenities, comfort, and convenience and that the project should be paused.

We commend the Council for fulfilling its charge to protect the Lagoon for everyone—especially the children from underserved communities who come to Redondo Beach during the summer. I saw the joy in their eyes when I was there planning an event in July, and it was a reminder of why keeping this space accessible matters.

The renovations will include moving away from ocean water and adding a concrete bottom. Whatever your views on those changes, the space itself will remain public and open to everyone.

To the people that spoke last night, you are all legends. Let’s hope this goes through as planned.

I do have my allegiances, not to any group, club, or employer, but to myself and being authentic to my community and supporters. As you cah tell my summer feet, I am a savage. I was born and raised in Redondo Beach and one of two sons of a single Mother who worked for the aerospace industry. I am the typical South Bay Gen Xer. I remember walking into the Lagoon til the water went over my head as a toddler and a lifeguard grabbing me. I remember being baptized there by Hope Chapel in the 80’s. I remember that gum/slash candy they sold at the snack window and how good it was getting out of the water. More recently I remember being at the Lagoon this past summer with 600 Sea Hawks at in the Lagoon in our hometown. It was epic.

We support approval of Phase 1

To me it’s simple…let’s keep it public space, make renovations to make it nicer thereby opening up the opportunity for more weddings, memorials, reunions, birthday, and memories for the ENTIRE community throughout the year.

Chime in right now regardless of what your opinion is. It’s your chance to let the council know what you think, or show up tonight. Certainly don’t be one of those lames that only complains.

I’ve said enough, regardless of what happens we will always have those SeaSide Lagoon Memories.
