Sunday.

No checklist today, no phone number. Just a full wrap we finished up this week, a clean yard and a homeowner who won't have to think about it again for a very long time.

That's the whole job.

Hope you all get a slow one today.

🏟️ First real Friday nights of the season are here.

There isn't much better around here than a high school game on a cool September night. The band, the concession stand coffee that's somehow still scalding, half the town in one set of bleachers.

Who'd you go watch last night? Drop your team below and we'll cheer with you 👇

🏈 It's College Colors Day. Wear the shirt, fly the flag, do the thing.

Around the shop we've got a whole lot of Buckeyes, a couple of guys flying colors for schools nobody here has heard of, and one who somehow roots for a team three states away and refuses to explain himself.

Whose colors are you wearing today? Drop your team in the comments 👇

🍂 Thursday question!

What's the first thing that tells you fall is here at your house? Not the calendar. The actual sign.

For us it's the first morning somebody's scraping the truck windshield and complaining about it before 7am. That and the first leaf in the gutter, which we take personally.

What's yours? 👇

🏠 Roofing Tip Wednesday

If your upstairs runs ten degrees hotter than the rest of the house in late summer, the problem might not be your air conditioner. It might be your attic ventilation.

Here's what's going on up there. The sun beats on your shingles all day and the attic turns into an oven. If that hot air has nowhere to go, it just sits. It bakes the shingles from underneath, runs your AC bill up, and come winter it traps moisture instead.

Ventilation is simple in concept. Cool air comes in low at the soffits, hot air leaves high at the ridge. A lot of older homes around here either never had enough of it, or the soffit vents got packed shut with insulation somewhere along the way.

It's one of the cheaper things to correct on a roof, and one of the most common reasons a roof wears out years before it should.

Curious what you've got up there? Ask us next time we're on your roof. 📞 419-989-4480

🌪️ September kicks off National Preparedness Month, which around here mostly means storm season isn't finished with us yet.

Everybody in Richland County has one. The hail that came out of nowhere. The wind that put the neighbor's tree in the driveway. The ice storm that shut everything down for three days.

So let's hear it. What's the worst storm you remember around here? The one you still bring up. Drop it in the comments 👇

CAREY CAME TO COLLECT!

No speeches. No excuses. No waiting around.

Just put in the work and take the Money Man Belt back!

Carey is wearing it this week, but we all know that belt doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long. 😂

Enjoy the view from the top, Carey… for now. 👀

Who will it be next week? 🤔

🎉 Three years with Frank today.

If material has ever shown up at your house right when it needed to, that was probably Frank. He handles deliveries and moves our trailers, which is a big part of why a job can actually start on schedule. It's the kind of work nobody notices when it's done right, which is exactly why we want to point it out.

What we'd really tell you about Frank has nothing to do with logistics, though. It's that we have never once seen the man in a bad mood. Three years of early mornings and Ohio weather and he still shows up glad to be here.

He's also got a story for just about any situation and advice that's actually worth taking, which is a rarer combination than you'd think.

Happy 3-year work anniversary, Frank. Here's to plenty more.

🏠 Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

None of this takes long, which is sort of the point. Give yourself twenty minutes this week and walk the outside of the house.

✔ Gutters. Clear, or is there a garden growing in them
✔ Siding. Any cracked or loose panels
✔ Roof. Anything missing, or shingles curling up at the edges
✔ Caulk around the windows and doors. Still soft, or cracked and pulling away
✔ Trees. Anything hanging over the roof or resting on it

Twenty minutes in August is how you avoid the phone call in January.

Which one have you already knocked out this summer?

🍂 Quick heads up before September gets here.

Fall is the best stretch of the year to put a roof on, and that's a shingle thing more than a sales thing. Shingles need moderate temperatures to seal down the way they're supposed to. August heat makes them soft and easy to scuff up. January cold means they won't bond at all until spring. September and October land right in the middle.

That's also why roofing schedules fill up fast this time of year. If there's work you already know is coming, getting on a calendar now is a lot easier than calling in mid-October behind everybody else who waited.

Not sure if yours can hold one more winter? That's a fair thing to wonder about, and it's worth finding out before the weather decides for you.
