What a week!
After having my store inside Painted Tree Boutiques in Mansfield for over three years, I wanted to share what happened. On Tuesday morning, we received an email right at 10:00 a.m., when the store opens, letting us know that Painted Tree Boutiques nationwide were closing effective immediately.
We were told to stop all transactions and go to our stores right away to remove our inventory because the landlord could shut the doors at any time. It was sudden, heartbreaking, and a lot for so many small business owners to process all at once.
From what we have been told, the company was bought last year, and since then things seemed to spiral. Some of us have not received commissions since January, although they took our rent every month. We also learned that rent had reportedly not been paid for months, yet they still took our April rent money. On top of that, many of us are now being told we may not receive our March commissions or the commissions from sales made in April through the day they shut everything down. That part has been especially painful and deeply upsetting for so many of us who worked so hard for our businesses.
I was able to get there quickly and start packing everything up, and I am so thankful for the people who showed up to help me. My heart also goes out to the many shop owners who had no idea what was happening or were out of town and were unable to get their inventory before the doors were chained shut.
I am truly heartbroken. I worked hard for over three years to build my business there, connect with so many wonderful customers, and create a space I was proud of. But if there is one thing I know, it is that I am resilient, and I will keep moving forward.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the love, kindness, encouragement, and support so many of you have already shown me. It means more than I can say.
