New HVAC system installed today in Guntown, MS.

Our crew installed a new 5-ton system, including rebuilding the attic ductwork and tying in a custom-fabricated plenum to get the duct runs properly connected to the new air handler, along with setting the new outdoor condensing unit. Measurements confirmed the system is cooling properly, with a delta T of just under 19 degrees across the coil - right where it should be. We'll be back out once temperatures cool down a bit to test the system in heat mode and make sure it's ready before fall gets here.

AC Not Cooling? It Might Be a Small Part With a Big Job.

We just wrapped up another service call in Saltillo, MS — a failed run capacitor causing the outdoor condenser fan and compressor to struggle to start.

Here's what we found:

Photo 1: Our tech getting into the outdoor unit, pulling the access panel to inspect the electrical components.

Photo 2: The culprit — an 80+5 µF dual-run capacitor. This part stores and releases energy to give your compressor and fan motor the "kick" they need to start up. When it fails, your system either won't start, hums and trips the breaker, or short-cycles trying to cool your home.

Photo 3: Testing the capacitor with our meter — reading 0.023 µF instead of the rated 80 µF. That capacitor was completely dead.

Photo 4: After the replacement, we hooked up our diagnostic tools to verify the system — 15.9° superheat, 4.0° subcooling, all pressures right where they should be. System back up and running properly.

Why capacitors fail:

Extreme heat, like our Mississippi summers
Normal wear and age (most last 5-10 years)
Power surges
Constant on/off cycling during peak season

A bad capacitor is one of the most common — and most affordable — AC repairs out there. Catching it early can prevent a full compressor replacement down the road.

Your outdoor unit should not look like a bird's nest. 🌲

This condenser was packed solid with pine straw, and the compressor inside had finally given up. When airflow across the coil gets choked off, head pressure climbs, the compressor runs hot, and one day it just doesn't come back on.

What this job took:
✅ Diagnosis to confirm the compressor was the actual failure
✅ Refrigerant recovered the right way
✅ New compressor installed and a new line set brazed in clean
✅ System evacuated, charged and tested before we left the yard

Here's the part that costs you nothing: keep pine straw, leaves and grass clippings pulled back about a foot from your outdoor unit, and rinse the coil off a couple times a season. That alone can add years to a system.
