One of the best parts of what we do is that no two projects are ever the same. Beyond the scope, style or architecture of a home, every project begins with the people who live there: their needs, preferences, routines, and the way they want their home to feel.

For our project, we started with a true blank canvas. Our clients moved in without furniture and wanted to weave their story into the home through new furnishings, collected pieces and thoughtful layers.

The home itself was brand new construction, so we didn’t touch the bones. Instead we focused on bringing in warmth, soul and a sense of history. Vintage pieces, earthy textures and a palette of soft neutral tones helped create a home that feels more lived-in and much more them.

And that’s the power of design: taking an empty house and creating a home that feels richer because it reflects the people who live there 🤘🏼

A little life update: we’re putting our sweet Mill Valley home on the market 🫶🏻🥹

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully put into words what this house has meant to me. The years that have unfolded here have been the most meaningful of my life, the years where I became the person I feel I was always meant to be. This was the first home we came home to after our wedding, the home where we became a family, and the place our two girls first came home to. And it’s also the birthplace of BBMD (and acted as BBMD HQ as I’ve called it).

For those of you who don’t know the full story, we moved up here sooner than I ever expected. The burbs welcomed us from the city before we were married, before kids, before I felt fully ready for that next chapter. But like most things in life, I think there’s so much beauty in stepping into something before you feel completely ready.

Those early days of making this house a home are what shaped so much of the philosophy behind BBMD. The creative flow I felt in those early days of this home was unmatched. It was me, my WFH corporate job and an empty house in the suburbs against the world. Before we found our friends and community here, I turned to TikTok to post little vignettes of this cottage hoping to connect with people and to share this little corner of my world.

Becoming a mom has completely changed the way I see other mothers. I truly don’t know how we do it all sometimes, and yet somehow we do. I’m in constant awe of how we somehow carry it all, hold it all together, and continue to give so much of ourselves.

Somewhere between raising my girls and building a business, I found pieces of myself I never knew were missing. Both journeys have shaped me in ways I could have never prepared for teaching me resilience, patience, surrender and the kind of love that changes everything.

Being a mom will always be my greatest honor and getting to pursue my dreams alongside motherhood feels like the greatest gift of all. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s sacred. To my younger self who wondered if she could hold both dreams at once: you can. And the life you create will be more beautiful than you imagined.

HMD to all the mamas. I’m lucky to work with you, grow with you and learn from you along the way 🫶🏻
