Sooo what's new..
At the animal house??
Well, the pigs are getting bigger, slowly. They're sweet and love handfuls of grass or treats from their friends. π They helped us turn over each garden spot that's now flourishing with fresh produce for everyone. While digging post holes and moving pastures they've uncovered really cool ancient artifacts like arrowheads and pottery. The other suprise bonus we found to having these pigs has been that their little p**p piles turn into a garden of butterflies it's actually really beautiful π π€£
My sister re-homed two holland lops, Eye & Florence, here to Boogie Mtn Sanctuary from Charlotte where they were kids-that grew up-'s pets and just needed a better life. They're loosing wait and thriving in their indoor/outdoor dorm style hutch with decor, mirrors and original art!
Recently we rescued a very rare little bun, a Teddywidder, Jake named Rah-Jah. It's a harder adjustment to this wild and free country living as he needs soo much daily beauty and hair care- its silly but fun, im working on his next haircut to open up his eyes more. We waited at first until he recovered from the transition, got a little older and felt safe to be with the other bunnies, hoping he would come back out of his shell some first. But once we introduced him to the others, he is the happiest we've ever seen him. They run to you when you get close to their home and are just the cutest π₯°
What about the chickens? Well all I can say-or sing is "Its The Circle, The Circle of LifeπΆ" in my best Lion King on Broadway voice.
We got a new rooster, Roo, he is very nice but if we don't put him to bed in time he roosts on the front porch right outside our bedroom window ππ. We've been enjoying these Ameraucana chickens but we're down to two ladies. So now we have a little free range trio laying fertile eggs that we're leaving piled up hoping for one to go broody and hatch her own clutch.π€·πΌββοΈ
Well the only things interested in the pile so far are black snakes, 3 of them- all different sizes, one HUGE! Jake just moves them along- we are glad they're here but dang they give me the heebie jeebies no matter how much of an understanding I think we have with each other.π¬
Now, we're thinking about using an incubator and I can enjoying learning that (smelly?) process for the first time!
The goldfish and lily pond are doing great. We added more feeder fish we saved from the pet store, it's fun to watch them grow. It's spring fed and flows to other areas on the farm like the animals drinking water and wallows, and we use it to water some of the gardens. Little bear loves to hang over the edge and watch the fish eat, we think he has them convinced that he's the one that feeds them!
Little bear got into a skunk, I can still smell it faintly right now π€’ although it feels like that was forever ago. He constantly gets haircuts but his strong personality shines through no matter what. He's Jakes little shadow, they are such a fun pair to be around.
Scooby, my ol faithful, my first rescue- is getting even more white around his face though he still runs and chases and gets boo-boos like a 4 year old. He will forever be greatful to Jake for bringing him to Boogie Mtn Sanctuary where he can truly be himself- wild and anxious yet finds comfort at the bottom of Jakes feet every time he plays his piano.
?Can we count all the birds, hummingbirds, bees, hummingbird-bees (yes, they love the beebalm). The turtles, salamanders, frogs, and oh man the fireflies were just amazing this year! We had a box turtle lay a nest in the flower garden right next to a gnome that I'm sure will guard her nest safe! Plus the caution tape we put around it like you see at the beach π€£ I'll share the video of her laying her egg! turtles are very special to me. I even came across one today just before the storm hit.
The gardens and flowers are booming, and we humans are doing great too! Summer is half way over and it feels like we are perfectly on time, soaking it all up as much as we can while still staying busy with work and family. β€
Most of you know by now that Jake has taken back over the Screaming Js himself, making some changes and improvements. If you have any questions about this or things that could be cleared up, just reach out to us! Know that he is grateful for the longtime loyalty and LOVE he's constantly recieved from friends, fans, and fellow musicians that build our Screaming js community all over the world- and it will continue to stay very much alive!
I do help with communication. (After all, most of you also know he doesn't have a phone- a true lifestyle frankly I think we're all jealous of) but really there are routes to contact him- fb msgr, email & me π. We will get back to you.
He just chooses not to have something ring or pull his attention away from whatever moment he's in at that time. And when he is in that moment and something has all of his attention, well that's the magic and you can't interrupt that anyhow β¨οΈ
This is an exciting time for the Screaming Js or any projects they get into, I love a good smell of change in the air! It's an exhilarating feeling because like most things it just keeps getting better and better, and really, we're all just getting started!!
They are open for bookings (the Js always love a private party!) They have a few mindfully chosen festivals coming up like Get Off the Grid and LEAF that focus on sustainability, community and culture- things that are important to us.
We are manifesting a tour to travel North this year through PA to MA if you have something in mind for us along the way.. and have other suprises in store too, like a FL run early next year, or perhaps a recording session for Jake to log his intellectual properties-old and new, to be able to share his compositions and songwriting as it continues and forever.
That magic flows through him like breathing air and it can not be stopped, coming out in new music, art, cultivating our home, our little farm, and well I just can't wait to see what's next!!
Stay tuned π
