Good Evening from the Farm.
A hot day here with temps in the upper 90’s, and it’s supposed to get even hotter tomorrow.
Osiris, the little hatchling that almost didn’t make it is doing exceptionally well. His wounds have healed nicely, and his therapy sessions for his leg are paying off.
He now can walk much better, perch, and has much less of a limp, and more motion on the joint.
He’s actually growing really fast, and we are preparing to move him to the brooder building in a day or two. We also plan on getting a couple of chicks from the big box farm store to keep him company too.
The wooden hospital incubator / brooder has worked out very well, much better than our plastic one.
The 3 ducklings have been out and about exploring the area. Much to the displeasure of their two mama Muscovy’s, they have been sneaking through the aviary fencing and coming out to the brooder building.
Mrs.E and her 9 hatchlings are also exploring the farm, spending most of the day wandering through the Goat areas and around the storage buildings before Mrs.E takes them back to the Hay Building around 6:30 pm for the night.
Our new Bantam aviary is working out well. In addition to the Bantams we have a few regular chickens, guineas and a couple of Bourbon Red Turkey Poults with them. Once they get a bit bigger, we will move them to the transition aviary, leaving the Bantams to their own special aviary due to their small size.
Sweeties triplets are also doing great. They like spending time down by the Buck Enclosure visiting with Dad or wandering through the woods of their area. So far we have not seen any horns on them, but we should know in another week or two if the boys are going to be “Polled” ( naturally horn-less like dad).
Maybelle the girl will take a bit longer before we can tell since boys tend to develop horn buds faster than girls.
Sweeties last triplets were all born Polled.
Hope everyone has a safe and great weekend.
