My husband and I are both very creative people. He is an artist/graphic designer/novelist/guitarist/woodworker/etc. and I am a photographer/sewing enthusiast/gardener/bottle lamp designer/etc. Needless to say, we feed off of each other creatively. For me, creating fabric baskets is a venue to release artistic expression and they are just plain ole’ fun to make. I’ve had a lot of people ask me how
fabric baskets are made. Friends of mine have had a basket in their hands, they exam it and say “I’m looking at it and still don’t understand how it is made”. The art of making a fabric basket is not difficult. It is time sensitive but anyone with a sewing machine and a little patience can do it. In a nutshell, the fabric is first cut into ¾” strips. The strips of fabric are then wrapped around cotton clothesline/rope. For your starting point, you bend the end of the wrapped rope in about half an inch. While coiling the rope in a circle, using a zigzag stitch on a sewing machine, you start to create the base of the basket. To build the sides of a basket, the outer edge is lifted a little at a time until the base of the basket sits at a 90 degree angle. While there’s more to creating your unique basket, this gives you some insight into the production process. If you are interested in having a custom basket made, all you need to do is go to my Etsy site and click on “Request Custom Order” on my Home page and let me know the size, shape and color combination that you have in mind. I will work all the details out with you at that point. As of this time I do not ship international or offer overnight delivery (this may change in the future), however, I urge you to click on “Contact the Shop Owner” (on my Etsy page) and I will be happy to research the shipping costs to your country and/or overnight deliveries. All you have to do is ask! If you accept the shipping price I will ship international and overnight to you!
