Today’s “Unboxing” Moment: A Box Full of BAM!
Every day is like Christmas here at the Shop Around the Corner. Today, we unpacked a box of vintage comic books from the 1960s to the 1980s, including some Captain America, Thor, the Flash, and Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen. We also have a few rare Christian comics from the 1970s, including one copy of the classic “The Cross and the Switchblade.” They all fit nicely on an old rotating greeting card holder given to us by Alison Smith at Massena Yoga Studio.
By the way, there are four recognized eras of comic books. The Golden Era is from 1930 to 1950, when the cover price was 10 cents. The Silver Era is from 1956 to 1970, when cover prices ranged from 12 cents to 20 cents. (This period included all of the comics my mother threw away!) The Bronze Era runs from 1970 to 1984, with cover prices ranging from 15 cents to 40 cents. The Modern Era is from 1985 to the present time. Look for a bar code! Comic books remain a great start-up collectible because they are mostly affordable and fairly easy to find. There are also plenty of useful websites that can guide your hunt.
The Shop Around the Corner will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
