Hurry! Get your trees! While you’re at it go ahead a cut down as many of those invasive Callery Pear trees and replace them.

UPDATE: We are now out of seedlings! Thank you all planting trees in the community. We will continue this program next Arbor Day.

My dear friend Megan has been the captain to an army of individuals working hard to track the path of the spotted lantern fly. I remember a casual discussion a year or two ago about the possibility of a dog belonging to one of her acquaintances being trained to sniff out lantern fly eggs. Fast forward, and would you look at this!?
If you’re not familiar with the problems associated with the spotted lantern fly, it’s the right time to catch up fast. If you see any of these eggs, PLEASE report them to her at the DNR to allow tracking and mitigation efforts. She has always said that the hardest part of the job (director of entomology) is public awareness. So please share with your friends as well, it’s a small way to contribute that collectively can have big results!

Store closing and SALE update:

I want to give the biggest thank you for everyone who has visited us and helped us with clearing our inventory so far this fall. Due to the strangest sequence of sickness over the past 6 weeks, we have decided to extend our closing date to NOVEMBER 15. This is rapidly approaching, and we still have lots to move.

We have finally pulled almost everything out, and Christmas is now busting the seams!!! All Christmas inventory is 25% off!
Absolutely everything else is 40% off, with a few things at 50% off or higher.

Yesterday was the first loading of items heading to Kokomo. Hurry in to beat the departure of things you might want or need!

Mums! Pumpkins!

400 mums arrived yesterday as well as some cool pumpkins and gourds, and they’re as beautiful and big as ever! Will we get more after this? I honestly don’t know.

We have received a flood of love, understanding and support since announcing our upcoming store closure. Please know that I have read each and every message sent, and I’m overcome with gratitude and emotion. I was underprepared for the outpouring of love, and apologize for the crickets since. I hope to respond to each and every one of you as time allows.

Hope to see you this weekend, we have a ton of material to get rid of and will be announcing new clearance price changes soon.

After 13 wonderful years, I am afraid I have made the difficult decision to close the McCordsville retail portion of the business. This is a hard choice. I really love it, and my employees (my friends), and my customers, many who are new (which feels tragic) as well as those who have supported us and watched us grow as a business and a family from the day we opened.

But most importantly, though, I love my family. They need me. They've needed me for a while, and I can't continue to delay my availability to them. Many of you have met each child as they were born, and now Edith is 4, Walter 6 and Miriam 10. School is getting harder, activities more plentiful, and I don't want them to miss these because of me. Also the store needs more of me and to give to one is to borrow from the other. We are over capacity.

Although this is unbelievably sad, it should be a great late summer and fall at the store for customers, as now I need to sell and move all inventory. So we will be having our biggest sale ever! We will continue to be open until probably at least the end of October (and yes, we will still do mums), and the sale will gradually increase even more as we decide what we want to keep for future endeavors. PLEASE if you have any unused gift cards now is the time to use them, the selection is really great! Tell your friends!

Which leads us to some good news: Salsbery Garden Center is not over, but changing. Our Kokomo location (owned 47 years by my parents) will still be offering the same quality and variety as the McCordsville location, only they are much larger. You will likely find me there often helping where I can and working on our future ventures as it is our mothership location. Remember when our geraniums were the absolute best you could find anywhere? And remember those mums? They are there pssst pssst (my mom is the best grower I know).
I am also going to be increasing my landscaping and consultation work, an area that has been neglected due to the retail demands. Feel free to inquire by messaging us here or at the store. These will remain somewhat case by case, but do ask!
Most excitingly, I want to work towards a small growing operation focusing on dwarf conifers and unusual specimens, to hopefully make available to you in the future.
