The last few days have proven to be quite misty here in Yamhill County. Yamhill County Sheriff's Office wants to remind you that if you can't see someone else coming down the road, they can't see you. So please, lights on for safety.

And if you're riding a non-motorized vehicle, please remember you need lights or reflectors on the front and back of your vehicle.

𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄

On December 19, 2025, at about 7:40 am Yamhill Communications (YCOM) received a 911 call regarding a vehicle which had driven past road closure signage into high water covering the roadway on SW Dejong Road between Ballston Road and Christensen Road. The caller observed the vehicle get swept off the roadway by the water with the current carrying the vehicle east from the road into a large, flooded area on the south side of the South Yamhill River. A witness observed a single occupant getting out of the vehicle into the water.

Deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and Polk County Sheriff's Office Oregon responded with mutual aid support from Dallas Oregon Police Department and Grand Ronde Tribal Police Department. Sheridan Rural Fire Protection District responded and requested assistance from Salem Fire Department with a water rescue team.

Using a drone deployed by Dallas Police Department to search the area, a body was located in the water. Salem Fire Department water rescue team and a Yamhill County resident with extensive water training and experience deployed with an inflatable boat and were able to recover the victim. The victim is identified as a 52-year-old man from Amity, OR.

Many areas in Yamhill County continue to be affected by high water and flooding. We are asking individuals to never drive into high water, and to obey all signage and traffic control devices related to flood affected areas.
