Knots & Folds

Knots & Folds Uniquely crafted macramé and origami items! Once upon a time, there lived a Princess who yearned to create Beautiful Things. Such a quandary! Unique things.

Not just ordinary things, but unique things that please the eye, touch the soul, speak to the heart. Questions loomed, however: what to create, how to craft, what tools, what materials, and (most importantly) how to share these Beautiful Things. Day after day passed, she contemplated her purpose, wondering how to accomplish this goal. Then one day, while wandering and musing, the young princess f

olded a cloth bandage then weaved some field daisies into a bracelet for a Wee Lass to cheer her up (as she'd just been stung by a bee). "Ahh!" the Wee Lass gasped, "How did you do that? The bandage is perfect and the daisies are, well, it's just beautiful! It touches me deeply and stirs my heart to gladness to wear this lovely bracelet!"

"Bless you, Wee Lass, for such a complement." the Princess replied, "''Twas nothing to weave that chain, and it satisfies me greatly that it touched you so." "You have a gift, Princess" sighed the Wee Lass as she turned to leave, "if I had such a talent, I'd feel truly blessed myself. Thank you, thank you for this Beautiful Thing." And she skipped merrily away, forgetting all about the sting from that wretched bee. Watching the Wee Lass react so, the Princess felt a stirring in her heart. Gazing up at the sky, ideas began brewing in her head. "Alas!" speaking aloud, "I suppose I do have a talent for weaving and folding. Perhaps I can weave and fold Beautiful Things to share with the world?"

Picking up her pace, the Princess's thoughts tumbling over and around in her head, she rushed home to her castle. Excitedly, she gathered up paper, ribbon, cords, twine, scissors, needles, gems and beads. And she began creating Beautiful Things. Things that please the eye, touch the soul, speak to the heart.

May Garden Mart weather is unpredictable! 🥶 And since it’s a chilly weekend, I’m offering just the hanger, with empty pot for sizing. Both can be purchased together or separately. Spider plants 🪴 are very hardy, so I’ll be bringing my most established plants in hangers as well. See you in Franklin? Saturday 9-4 and Sunday 11-4. ~ Franklin Gardeners Association May Garden Mart ~

🪴 Sometimes the pot picks the cord. 🪴 Sometimes the cord picks the pot. At times, I macrame with intent. At times, I just plunge into knotting. And the beads? The hole size often picks the cord, but sometimes the cord picks the beads.

So much for this fiber artisan’s musings! I somehow seem to get there, arriving at a finished plant hanger that works, that appeals, that shouts out “pick me” to patrons. 🥰

Native American dream catchers are traditionally made with all natural materials such as willow vines, leather cords, and feathers. Aside from the metal ring and nylon blend lace, I use cotton cords and wood beads to (somewhat) be true to form.

After a long break from posting here, I’m back! And have been busy with some old and some new items for this upcoming season. Finger starfish are a nice accent piece. The wreaths are 8” and I did a lot of fussing when adding the bows and charms and finger starfish. They’re customizable as the items can be shifted as desired. I hope they appeal! 🤗

Thrifting for pots, selecting cords and beads, nurturing spider plant babies, potting and sometimes repotting. A lot of time, care, and thought goes into putting together a macrame plant hanger. And when it catches someone’s eye, they just have to have it? Worth it!

🤗 Applefest® patrons, I know I’ll have something you’ll love!
