Exciting to see Ho-Chunk Gaming Beloit moving closer to its September opening as construction continues on this transformational new destination for the Ho-Chunk Nation.

HBG Design is honored to serve as architect and interior designer for the project, helping bring to life a resort experience that reflects the Nation’s vision for economic growth, entertainment, hospitality, and cultural connection. From gaming and dining to future hotel accommodations and entertainment venues, the development is designed to become a major regional destination while remaining deeply rooted in Ho-Chunk identity and the cultural history of Beloit.

Projects like this demonstrate how tribal destination developments can create meaningful long-term impact — generating jobs, supporting local businesses, and creating places that authentically connect community, culture, and experience.

We look forward to seeing this exciting next chapter come to life for the Ho-Chunk Nation.

As racing season wraps up, we’re reflecting on the evolution of racing destinations and how hospitality design continues to redefine the guest experience beyond the track.

Completed by HBG Design in 2021, Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort transformed a more than century-old Thoroughbred racing venue into Arkansas’ only true racing resort destination — blending luxury hospitality, gaming, entertainment, and the enduring culture of the sport into a fully immersive experience.

Inspired by Oaklawn’s rich legacy and the history of Hot Springs as “America’s First Resort,” the design embraces a refined “Tailored Equestrian” concept that balances contemporary luxury with authentic storytelling rooted in racing tradition.

As guest expectations continue to evolve, racing resorts have an opportunity to become more than event venues — they can become year-round lifestyle and entertainment destinations grounded in place, heritage, and experience.

We were honored to connect with architect and professor Doug Campbell’s Design Management students at Western Michigan University as part of their recent exploration of Gun Lake Casino Resort in Wayland, Michigan.

Prior to their tour of the new hotel tower and Wawye Oasis, Doug reached out to our team for design insight and design thinking behind the project. We were excited to share how our approach shaped key priorities—from the engineering strategies to the guest experience to operational flow—and helped bring the vision to life. Following their tour, the students produced incredibly thoughtful reflections on what they learned. Hearing how strongly they connected with the design intent, and how enthusiastically they responded to the many priorities our team explored and accomplished, was truly rewarding.

Gun Lake Casino is a remarkable project and a meaningful source of inspiration in the region. We’re grateful to have been part of their learning journey and appreciate the opportunity to share our work with the next generation of designers.

Copper Rock Steakhouse is where story, culture, and craft come together through design. ✨

At Four Winds South Bend, HBG Design created a refined, 6,247 SF dining experience that balances contemporary sophistication with meaningful cultural expression. Inspired by the sacred significance of copper to the Pokagon Band, the interiors are anchored by two monumental copper rocks—powerful focal points that ground the space in authenticity and heritage.

Layered materials—rich wood tones, stone, and warm copper accents—create depth and intimacy throughout, while custom features like a sculptural wine bottle chandelier and copper-clad display kitchen bring energy and visual drama to the guest experience.

From private dining rooms to the lively bar and open kitchen, every space is designed to offer a distinct yet connected experience.

The result is more than a steakhouse—it’s a destination that elevates dining through storytelling, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of place.

Reinvestment isn’t just about expansion—it’s about intention.

As highlighted in Global Gaming Business' “Beauty, Purpose & Smart Resort Reinvestments,” today’s most successful gaming destinations are evolving with purpose. At Rain Rock Casino Resort, that philosophy shaped every decision.

Owned by the Karuk Tribe, the resort’s recent expansion draws deeply from the surrounding Siskiyou landscape—guided by a powerful idea: designing through the perspective of a salmon moving upstream.

The result is an immersive, place-based experience where architecture, interiors, and storytelling flow together seamlessly—enhancing both guest connection and long-term value.
