Starting Saturday, August 6th, the shop will be closed for two weeks while we enjoy a little summer vacay. But we’re here for you this week, and any kitchen knife orders placed and dropped off before Friday at midnight will receive a free sharpening report. Simply book your order for regular sharpening, and we will upgrade to sharpening with report at no cost.

Just as toast always lands butter-side down, a dropped knife seems to inevitably land on its cutting edge. Stone countertops and tile floors are unforgiving to sharp edges. Modest damage like chipped blades, broken tips, and bent edges can be repaired as part of the normal sharpening process. Severely damaged blades require a little extra effort but are always cheaper to repair than to replace. Wondering whether your knife is salvageable? You can always send us a picture for remote diagnosis.

A new offering for our fellow geeks out there...
Do you sometimes wonder how to define relative terms like dull and sharp? Do you wonder how your at-home sharpener compares to our equipment and expertise? Nerd out with a sharpening report that quantifies the sharpness of your knife before and after visiting our shop.

We will use the Edge-On-Up edge tester to calculate the force needed to break an engineered piece of media. We'll test your knife when it arrives at the shop, and again when we're done with it. Use these values to benchmark your results against ours, or our results against average values for new cutlery and razor blades.

Last week, I mowed the grass for the first time this season. Yesterday was the vernal equinox, and we’ve had lots of rain recently. With temps in the 60s this week, it won’t be long before I’m mowing twice per week. A customer brought his mower blade in to be sharpened today, and it inspired me to do the same for mine.

We don’t recommend that you use your kitchen knives as pry bars or screwdrivers. But if you do, send them to the shop (always a judgment free zone) for some rehab. Most of the time, we can fix broken tips, chips, and bent edges as part of the normal sharpening process. For $8 per knife, we’ll give that beat up blade new life and a razor sharp edge.

Spring must be right around the corner, because we have a lot of garden equipment coming through the shop. Bypass pruners, loppers, hedge shears, shovels, lawn mower blades... what else do y'all have that needs sharpening?

Really enjoyed working on these sewing scissors that came to the shop today. Reminded me of my mother and her strict admonitions growing up that her Ginghers were not to be used to cut anything other than fabric!

We're sharpening our thinking...

Everyone enjoys using a sharp knife. But few have the time, skill, or tools to keep their knives performing at their best.

We're working on some ideas to help with that! Stay tuned for more...
