No two bathrooms we design are quite alike, but the philosophy behind them rarely changes.
Natural stone. Plaster. Warm woods. Unlacquered brass, polished nickel, and living finishes that evolve with the room. Materials with depth and variation—nothing too perfect, nothing meant to stay untouched. We study the land and also look to old European homes, where bathrooms feel less like a utility and more like another beautifully considered room in the house.
The layout, stone, and details may change from project to project, but our north star stays the same: honest materials, timeless forms, and a room that only gets better with age... which slide resonates with you most?

Every kitchen we design is entirely its own, shaped by the home, the architecture, and the people who live there. But there are always a few north stars.
Natural materials. Plaster walls. Stone that shows its hand. Unlacquered brass, nickel, and living finishes that get better with age. Wood with grain, metals that oxidize, surfaces that patina instead of staying perfect. Materials that have been trusted for centuries—and that we trust to carry a home for generations to come.
The details change. The palette changes. The story changes. But the through line is always the same: real materials, made to be lived with.

After so many requests, I finally put together our Rome + Florence travel guide—where we stayed, ate, wandered, shopped, and the places I’m still thinking about. The perfect mix of the iconic stops you have to see once, tiny restaurants we stumbled into, long lunches, w**e windows, incredible old hotels, and, naturally, plenty of interiors and architecture along the way. I’ve walked thousands of slab yards in my career—And somehow, I never get tired of it.
Real stone is one of the biggest pillars of our philosophy at MKS because it’s real. It has history. It wears in rather than wears out. There’s a reason the same materials have lined European kitchens, garden paths, farmhouses, and centuries-old estates for generations. Patina isn’t something to be afraid of—it’s the point.
On a home with three kitchens, ten bathrooms, a mudroom, and everything in between, that means a lot of stone. But when I’m choosing materials at that scale, I keep coming back to the same question: what can I trust to still feel beautiful decades from now?
For me, the answer will always be real materials.
