Athena and I have decided to run the Disney half marathon in January of 2027. We are doing this by raising money for Blood Cancer United, formerly known As The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My goal is to raise $2000 for blood cancer research.
Leukemia has touched my family 3 times, in 2 adults,both of whom we lost, and one child who survived. The treatments are grueling and painful for the patient and their family.
My father in law was diagnosed when my first born was just a toddler. My son spent so much of his childhood in the hospital while his grandfather went through chemo treatments. He was nine when we lost his grandfather and his heartbreak was the hardest for me to endure.
My Father in law battled for 7.5 years and put up a good fight. We miss him dearly everyday. When he was first diagnosed I asked the doctor if this was hereditary, the answer was they “just don’t know”. My biggest fear has since been that my husband or one of my children will develop this same cancer. I chose this charity in hopes that someday there will be a cure!
