The power of blocking!!

There are 2 common ways that crocheters block their work. Wet Blocking or Steam Blocking.

šŸ’¦Wet Blocking is commonly used for plant and animal fibers (wool, alpaca, cotton, linen). When using this method you fully soak your project in water and then pin into place.

ā™Øļø Steam Blocking is commonly used when working with heat-sensitive synthetic fibers, like acrylic. With this method you can either hang the project or pin the project (as shown in the video) and then steam.

This video shows Steam Blocking in real time! You can literally see the stitches relaxing as the steam hits the fibers! Such a cool thing to watch!

I have been working on a crochet Mandala project in honor of my Mom.

The 3 year anniversary of her passing was last week. I have been struggling to figure out a way to honor her. I think Mandalas are gorgeous and so intricate in their design, so I decided that would be perfect. When deciding on which Mandala I wanted to make, I was looking for one that reminded me of the beauty and grace that my mom possessed, but that also reminded me of ballet/ dance because my mom loved it so much. I think the one I chose is perfect.

Here are some progress pictures so far. The colorway ends with the most gorgeous dark purple (my mommaā€™s favorite color). It will be tied to a metal ring and hung on the wall in my house. I canā€™t wait for it to be complete!

Momma I miss you so much more than I can ever put into words. There are days that it still feels like yesterday that you went to heaven, while some days are easier. I still have almost daily reminders of her and she sends hummingbirds to me all the time. I hope that you are proud of me, Shea and the kids. I love you to the moon and back times infinity! ā¤ļøšŸ’”

This month is rough for me. My mom passed away 3 years ago on April 22nd. My mom was the most amazing mom and I miss her everyday!

When she was on hospice, I told her to send me hummingbirds so I knew she was with me! Every time Iā€™m having a bad day a hummingbird shows up. It stops me in my tracks every time! I was talking to my best friend .by.hennek about how rough this month has been for me.

Well, today I get home from work and see an Amazon box on my counter. I was expecting an Amazon package so I moved it so I could open it. When I moved it it was a lot heavier than it should have been. But I didnā€™t think anything of itā€¦šŸ¤£ I opened the box and was very confused. Inside was two bottles of liquid. I pulled it out and saw that it was hummingbird feed. There was another little box inside and that had 2 hummingbird feeders in it. I was so confused. At first, I honestly thought Amazon messed up! I checked the label and it had my name on it. Then I saw a gift receipt. I told my son that the only person that would have sent this was Nicole. I called her and she didnā€™t answerā€¦cause she was momming. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ At the very bottom of the box I found this note. Instant tears!!

I have the most AMAZING bestie! This gift just made my whole day!!! I love you and I am so grateful for you!!! Thank you for loving me during the bad times and the good!! You are the bestest bestie ever!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļø
