If every finish is chosen to be “safe,” the result can be a very expensive home that doesn’t feel particularly special.
For Orion, we chose Macchia Vecchia marble, and there’s absolutely nothing quiet about it.
The secret to using a statement slab like this in a more classic home is restraint everywhere else. We paired all that movement with dark oak cabinetry, creamy painted finishes and clean architectural details so the stone gets to be the moment without the room feeling overly trendy.
And because continuity matters, we carried the same material palette from the main kitchen into the back kitchen. Even the open pantry shelving combines stained oak with the creamy painted finish, tying both cabinetry tones together in one detail.
It’s a compact workhorse with a fridge/freezer, sink, steam oven and, of course, a Costco door.
Timeless doesn’t have to mean boring. Sometimes the material you’re a little nervous to choose is exactly what gives a home its point of view.
