I don’t do posts like this very often and this is not exactly biz related, but this summer was one of my favorite summers yet! The funny thing about it is, we didn’t take any fancy vacations or do anything IG worthy…. I didn’t even spend the hours I would normally spend on this wonderful biz.
This is the first summer since the kids started seriously playing hockey that we haven’t traveled. We intentionally took a summer off and it was scary thinking we weren’t doing what everyone else is doing. It is against the norm now days to not go hard all year long and I wasn’t sure if we would regret it. The opposite actually happened. We set different kind of goals and hit the gym. My oldest wanted to put on weight and work on the off ice speed and agility. This meant a lot of time at the gym and in the kitchen. And I mean A LOT of time in the kitchen!!! The family came together day after day to prepare intentional meals that would fuel their bodies. But when I tell you time in the kitchen that also meant a crap ton of time cleaning and grocery shopping! Whew! But what came of this was quality time that I wouldn’t have traded for anything!
My youngest started with a heavy focus on stretching and flexibility (which he needs as a goalie), but by the end of the summer his brother was pushing him to a whole new level with weights and plyometrics. They even pushed me! I committed to driving them every day, but that didn’t mean I got to slack!
Here we are starting a new hockey season and I think both boys grew more this summer than any others and they for sure impressed the hell out of me with their dedication and focus. The best part is the quality time we had together!!
