Some of you might have stopped by the Alterman Audio store at 3101 N Causeway Blvd in Metairie. Our retail store and showroom is empty. We have changed our way of doing business. Finding someone to man the store who knows something about audio and
tv is pretty hard to do these days. We are doing business, (and a lot of business) over the phone. After all these years folks take my recommendations and just buy it. My main man Eddie, over 30 years runs the wires and does the installation. Nobody has more expertise. We have a few systems set up to listen to in are warehouse upstairs and doing by appointment only... It was February 1973!. FIFTY ONE YEARS AGO. I was standing on a ladder, painting the Alterman Audio sign shown in this photo. A car drove up, and I sold that guy an Acoustic Research AR-XA turntable.
That was the first official sale of Alterman Audio.
I recently found the actual receipt.
So ... how can we still be here after 51 years competing againsts giants like Best Buy, Amazon, and all the other audio storews that used to be in New Orleans.

Meet the Audio-technica ATLP3. It has been our top selling turntable for 3 reasons. 1. It's a fully automatic (belt drive) turntable. 2. It has built-in Bluetooth so without an amp or receiver, you can listen to vinyl with Bluetooth headphones. 3. Price. When introduced it was $349, but now only $299.
While many low price turntables are automatic, the quality of the tonearm and its friction causes record wear and poor sound. We call them record grinders.
Quality automatic turntables are very rare.
The start button is on the outside of the dustcover, allowing for easy access. Pressing it will make the tone arm lift, glide over to the record, gently land, and start playing the record. At the end, it will reset and shut off.
It has a built-in phono preamp, so it can hook up to a CD or line input on an amp or receiver. It also comes with a detachable headshell so you can easily clean and replace the needle.

New Year 2024 Resolution: To post something on Facebook almost every day... or at least try. And these posts will not be all advertising the great audio and video products we sell, but interesting things folks might not hear about elsewhere.

THE EARLIEST KNOWN STEREO RECORDINGS

Sound Recording was first done by Thomas Edison in 1977 using wax cylinders. But, even back then people wanted better sound. In 1881 the Theaterphone was a French subscription service tha delivered live performance in simulated stereo over phone lines. But, these performances were not recorded.
Indiana University's Archives of Traditional Music found music recorded using two cylinders for stereo sound, made in 1901. The music was from China and was the first known stereo recording and two separate cylinder recordings were made simultaneously, thus it was stereo sound.
These recordings were not made for the sake of stereo sound or even from a music aspect, but a anthropolgist, sent to China by the American Museum of Natural History.
Thousands of cylinders were recorded fo study the Chinese people by Berthold Laufer.
These were copied to tape and more recently transferred to digital audio. Using Pro Tools they found some of these recordings were done and therefold were actually stereo. The timing was corrected of the two different playback machines, using digital speed adjustments.
