Cool Air Option for horse hair plaster?
Our house (two floor single family colonial w/basement) is 126 years old and has horse hair plaster for walls. Though there’s no insulation in the house -fun to learn after we repainted and fixed all the walls-, the house can become incredibly hot and sticky. We’re trying our best with fans and dehumidifiers because the AC units we have in different sizes will only fit through three windows in the whole house.

Darn those people in 1900 not thinking about mysterious cooling machines of the future that need larger window space.

Just curious if there are others here who have had any similar experience. Are there actual options out there or do I avoid everything like the plague as to not ruin my walls?

We’re in New England so I’m not sure if the bipolar teenage weather throwing all seasons into one day makes any difference as to what can be tolerated.

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself, and share a photo of my house built in 1947. The house was owned by my Wife's Grandparents. They purchased it in 1955. The Grandmother lived here until December 2023. We purchased the house from her in April 2024. I renovated the interior with some help from friends. But, I did the bulk of the work myself. The home was built, along with 7 others, for returning WW2 veterans and their families. It's a small two bedroom with bathroom, kitchen, and dining room. The basement is full size, and semi-finished with a pool table and other entertainment items. I'm not sure what style of house this is considered?

[I just redid the sidewalk area and grass needs to grow along he outside edge] the reason the brick is lighter around the door is because there was a big old ugly metal awning on the house years ago when we bought it and we have replaced the whole cement porch and railings and tore off the awning, which. [I did not like any awnings because it makes the room dark. ] THE BUSH[and heirloom Azelia Ive never seen before] is providing us privacy in our living room from the prying eyes of people across the street and driving down the street lol we live on a busy busy road. we planted rose of sharons on the other side to give me privacy so I can have my window open and not have people seeing me in my bedroom. the original awning kept the brick from fading, and the original porch was falling off the house..so we downsized because no one uses the front.

Any suggestions for colors for the front porch posts and front door on my new-to-me 1901 house? The not-the-original posts are stained dark brown and the porch floor is unfortunately concrete.
I'm not changing the black shutters, but want to make it more cheery. It has a new red metal roof.
