Here is some fun history of Geauga County and how it was named. It also is part of how we got our name "Sheoga" as well.

Do you know how Geauga County got its name?!
Its actually quite interesting!

Geauga County is named after the Native American word "Sheauga," meaning "raccoon". The name originally referred to the Grand River, which was historically known as the "Sheauga Sepe" or Raccoon River due to the high population of raccoons along its banks!
