When my mind is too full, I need something simple that helps me get out of my head.
This is one of the drawing exercises I learned when I was little.
Start by drawing lines and curves all over a piece of paper. Do not plan it. Do not try to make it pretty.
Just let your hand move.
Then look at the shapes that appear between the lines.
You can color them, or leave them exactly as they are.
For me, it is a small way to pause when I am stressed, bored, overwhelmed, or overthinking.
There is no right way to do it.
The point is not to create something perfect, it's to give your mind a different place to go for a few minutes.
I wrote more about coming back to drawing, the creative things we forget we love, and simple ways to get out of our heads when life feels heavy.
