This family of three arrived to their Union Beach home with two chairs and their mattresses on bases. Now they have a coastal retreat with views of the ocean, the Verrazano, and Manhattan.
A mother and her two adult sons moved from North Jersey into this Union Beach waterfront home and trusted us to design the whole thing. Phase 1 starts on the third floor, where the reverse living layout puts the best views front and center.
The brief: transitional casual coastal with a touch of shabby chic and Positano style. Her must-haves were a deep, comfortable white sofa, a dining table that expands from 4 to 8, and extra bar storage.
The oversized sofa is wrapped in a soft, textured indoor/outdoor fabric made to curl up on and built to last. Beside the oversized chair sits a unique mango wood side table I knew was perfect the second I found it. The right size, scale, and shape keeps the chair from stealing the spotlight and brings the whole room into balance.
Since the sofa had only one possible spot, a large beach photograph hangs above the chair, giving the sofa a view of its own. Positano color and texture carry through every corner.
