Style Trend Two: To the Max with Maximalism

I chose this style to write about since it contrasts with last week’s post about minimalism. Maximalism is about vibrancy, lots of color, layering, and intentional placement. It should be full of personality and collected items. For the right inhabitants, this style can be outstanding; but it can turn into too much of a good thing in a heartbeat. Yes, if not done right can be a mish mosh of stuff with no fluidity.

That’s where a good design plan comes in. A trained eye can help you discern the look so your surroundings will be artfitted with the things you love, curated with comfortable, stylish ambiance.

A design worth keeping is one that reflects your well-lived life. It can be maximal, and it can bring you joy. , , , , ,

Style Trend One: How Minimal is Minimal?

Scrolling through magazine pages and websites, you can find the most beautiful inspiration photos, the perfectly placed this, accented with one stunning piece of that. And let’s not forget the perfectly filtered light coming through the right areas of the room with hardly anything in it.

Well, most homes can’t attain that look without a tremendous effort. The shape of the room, the molding, the ceiling height, the existing windows, enough seating — all those things play an interactive role in the story. And most important, once the space is designed you need to love it and have it function in a way that’s consistent with your intent. Getting a dumpster and throwing all your belongings away won’t work over the long haul. Curating your space requires a well-conceived plan and a developed appreciation for the environment we’re curating.

A design worth keeping is one that reflects your well-lived life. It can be minimal, but it doesn’t have to sacrifice your personality or your lifestyle to be beautifully yours.
