I thought maybe it's time for us to do some introductions...
Hello!!! I am Bethany Shoaf Tompkins co-founder/co- owner(I don't really have a fancy title) of Salvage Threads.. I live and work in Middletown with my 2 dogs and husband.. I have homeschooled for the last 16 years and am almost an empty nester....I am finally free and able to focus on my career for the first time in 25 years... π±π±π± What do I want to be when I grow up????
My small business Silly Sewing Goose (formally Sew Purpose) is located in studio 106 right across the hall from Salvage Threads in 104.. I teach sewing classes, sewing machine repair, mending and alterations, and custom hand cranked chainstitch embroidery. I also set up at different events to offer live chainstitch, people can bring their items for me to personalize or I can make custom cloth patches on the spot. And sell bandanas with whatever you want written on it. Message me to book your market or event. I have done life chain stitching in movie theaters, concerts, craft fairs / farmers markets and special artist workshops.
I am known to geek out over some vintage sewing machines .. if you have Grandma or great grandma's sewing machine in your basement pull it out and bring it and I will get it good as new... I also host Craftapalooza, a FREE crafting, community event. Every Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 at the Pendleton.
Salvage Threads was born when Teresa Rivers and I, inheriting a fellow artist's fabric stash after she had passed. I also had totes& totes of my own fabric stash that was getting out of hand.. we always come in contact with people that are trying to get rid of their mother or grandmother's fabric stash.... We had enough to fill a room ππ€ͺ. And we DO take donations π
We wanted to fill a need... Helping our fellow creatives source AFFORDABLE materials in our a fabric desert.. RIP JOANNS. Locally in Middletown, Ohio, the only place you MIGHT be able to find fabric by the yard is Walmart. I have heard rumors that they are going to stop carrying it.. Their selection is very limited and the quality is lacking. The closest hobby lobby (if you support them π) is about 25 minutes away.. and their selection is very limited also. I have had nightmare orders from Amazon.. you never know what you're going to get or how it is going to come.. for example I needed 5 yards of Minky material... It came bundled in five different bags 1 yard per bag π΅βπ«π΅βπ«π΅βπ« it probably was on me because I may have missed that in the description but when it says by the yard you kind of assume that it's all going to come still intact π΅βπ«π
If you're thinking about coming down to check us out and you don't know if we are open or not feel free to call me or if there's a certain sewing thing you are looking for we might have it
