It’s marvelous Monday! Today our spotlight is on patchwork quilts and flimsies. We’ll be showing you pieces across a wide range of decades, materials, and conditions. Nearly all are hand pieced and hand quilted. Some are in good, clean condition, others are definitely cutter quilts, and a few might benefit from a good soak.

As always, let us know if you have specific question and we’ll get back to you.

Hey friends,
We’ve been really busy with the ScrapRvA move this week and teaching the Scrap Repair classes.
With this new store comes more responsibility with my real job… and my hands are only getting more nerve damaged over time from my neck issues and unfortunately driving really makes that worse… so that said, I have decided to take a bit of a step back from JaM
I will no longer be available to come out and do one on one meetings and sewing machine matches for you guys in person and I will no longer be answering messages, emails, or buying more machines.
Julie will still be selling Featherweights and other machines still serviced (by me) at Buckingham and some of my machines are still there already serviced and ready to go so feel free to come by and grab whatever machine you need to, I’m not needed. Gayle and Joel are great at helping get you the parts you need.
I have listed a few machines from my personal collection on eBay here: https://www.ebay.com/usr/mollmcca-0
These are shippable and I ship usually next day. I’m working my way through some of my attachments, so check back soon if you don’t see what you’re watching for.
Thank you for making this year great. You’re truly appreciated.
Love,
Molly Ann

Let’s talk about service!

This is a machine I serviced a couple years back.
It “ran”…
Slowly. But it technically ran…
Inside this motor is just rotted. Someone probably put oil in the motor ports. It’s not something someone who just watched some videos would have thought to check for.

When I service a machine PROFESSIONALLY I’m checking for these kinds of issues. I’m looking at wires. I’m checking for weird noises. I’m looking for issues that aren’t really in the “book”. I’m trying to get the motor to run at 1000% not just to get the machine to “technically” run. I’m looking to make sure the timing is right and that the bobbin winder actually winds a bobbin and a thousand other things I’ve never even thought of writing down because it’s just sort of my job.

I know I’m more than some market place sellers. That’s because your service is INCLUDED. And because we’ve searched for the best and the coolest machines on the market, and Joel and Gayle (Buckingham) have to eat, too. (Thank you guys!!)

But if you still want to shop marketplace for a “good deal” please please please contact a service professional and schedule that first detailed service after you buy.
If I’d seen this before this machine was run another 2 years, I might have been able to save this motor. Instead it has to be rewound entirely, and it was cheaper for this friend to just replace this motor.
Charity at All Things New Sewing & Service has a special service where she can make an in person class/service with you and she’ll teach you how to do the more than basics of how to continue to care for your machine at JAM. It starts at $95 for running machines and is a great way to let someone with some extra experience help make sure you’re not overwhelmed with a major issue. (And I do often come to these to help her get used to the on the fly service style that I’m used to doing in my classes)
She also has regular drop off services that start at $65.
There are other techs that do basic mechanical service work here in RVA, but most aren’t doing the major rewire that something like this would require.
