Welcome to my page, a "Keeping Room" of sorts, where I am happy to share my unique, one-of-a-kind designs and creations for your home or shoppes. Born and raised in New England, I am a lover of the four seasons, thus, constantly inspired to create for those special times. My design inspiration is country and primitive, with great detail added to my creations. I love hand sewing including embroidery, cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, applique, quilting, etc.

Here is the first completed project made from my recycled shutter slats. I wired three of them together to create a prop for the woolen pumpkins and “The Patch” sign. Sticks from the woods make perfect rustic stems and silk flowers add color, dimension and visual interest. A wire loop is added at the top for hanging. I can’t wait to finish the second design. Once upon a time this was a shutter. It was probably one I purchased at a junk shop for five bucks. For years I used the shutter as a prop for a sign I had on one of our walking trails in the woods. Over time the shutter began to fall apart. The side pieces became unjoined and individual slats began to fall out onto the ground. I finally rescued the shutter and carried it home. Most folks would have burned it or taken it to the dump. Not I…….
I carefully took it apart, saving all the rusty hardware pieces for other projects. I sanded the flaky paint off each slat. While doing this, my brain became filled with different ideas to create using these rescued gems! I already have five or six ideas that I can’t want to get started on.
In the coming weeks I will share some of the interesting and practical ways to use these pieces. I love the rustic patina on each one after sanding them. If you love rustic and unique, please follow.

To add a bit of dimension to your wool subjects, consider not using a fusible product. Instead, use applique pins to attach the pieces before stitching…but first, stuff a wee bit of fiberfill beneath the larger pieces for lift. And….those vintage linen scarves help make your colors pop while adding texture and visual interest. 🧡
