Update on the run of towels that I was working on:
I got 11 towels from this warp. Each took slightly over 1 hr to weave. Then I had to cut them apart and hem them by machine which took another hour in total. Then I threw them all in the washer and dryer before pricing/tagging them.
I started with a warp that was 20” wide. Before washing, they measured 19” wide and approx 28” long. Since these are 100%cotton, I expected them to shrink and they did! Finished size is 15.5”wide and approx 22” long. The fiber bloomed and filled in the gaps, making a luscious, thirsty towel.
My handwoven towels are my favorites and I know that you will love them also!

My towel inventory is getting low so I decided to weave some more before my first show on May 23 in Syracuse at the Oakwood Fine Arts show. So far, I have worked on this project for almost 8 hours and am now ready to get weaving. I know from past experience that it will take me an hour, give or take, to weave each towel. These towels will take longer than some because I need to change color after every throw of the shuttle - green, white, green, white, etc. It is hard to get in a good rhythm. After weaving, each towel must be hemmed, washed and dried.
I am expecting 8-10 towels on this warp, so I already have invested an hour per towel.
Which makes me realize that if I sell each towel for $30, I am getting $15/hr not including my supplies. I could make more working at MacDonalds! But I would miss the meditative calm that I get from weaving while listening to a good sermon or uplifting music.

Some days I get to weave and some days I have to cut fabric and winds it into balls so it’s ready for future rugs. Guess which most of my “weaving time “ has been taken up with lately!

A full thread rack is a beautiful thing!
It has been several years (5?)since I totally rethreaded my creel I am now ready to weave 28” wide rugs once again. 11 different colors in a repeating order, with 8 threads per inch makes 224 threads, costing about $1500
It has taken me the better part of 4 afternoons to switch out every spool, tie a knot to the old spool, and pull all of the knots through so that I have good warp in front of me.

Another landscape rug. A knock off of one done by Kathy Marti - Windy Hill Weaver. (Imitation is the most sincere form if flattery)
25 plus or minus different selvages , 6 fabrics, strips from 2 chenille blankets
Very slow weaving so the price will have to reflect that but a great challenge.

Today I wove another sunset on the lake wall hanging.
It is times like this that I love my stash! I used 16 different fabrics, parts of two chenille bedspreads, approx 12 separate colors of yarn, and 7 distinct selvages.
Finished size is 18.5” by 25 “ not including the fringe.

When I am not weaving rugs on my 2 shaft loom, I dabble in finer fibers. These dish towels are made from 100 % cotton on an 8 shaft loom and are so soft! I won’t be sad if they don’t sell because that means I get to keep them.
I was excited to find the sheep pattern in Handwoven M/A 1990, and then make my own patterns after that. Definitely more challenging than rag rugs, but much slower weaving.
