FROM THE FARMER 🌿 | Monday, October 12

Fall is moving right along, and we’re beginning to prepare our dahlia rows for the first hard frost.

This week, we started cleaning up the rows while continuing to harvest as many beautiful blooms as we can. It’s always a little bittersweet knowing the season is winding down, but there’s still work to do before we tuck these fields in for winter.

We planted 5,000 dahlia tubers this season, and now comes the next chapter: identifying, digging, inspecting and preparing them for storage.

We’re keeping The Bloom Society updated along the way, sharing what we’re learning as we go. From tagging varieties before frost to digging and assessing tuber growth, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes before we can think about offering tubers next spring.

We’re hopeful that we’ll have locally grown dahlias available at reasonable prices, with local pickup here at the farm. First, though, we need to see what Mother Nature has helped us grow!

The fields may be changing, but the work of growing flowers never really stops. 🌱

One of the most beautiful things about being farmer-florists is that our design stories begin long before a stem ever reaches a vase. They begin in the soil, follow the movement of the seasons, and—on mornings like this—conclude with the first crisp embrace of frost. ❄️✨

The heavy frost officially marks the end of our outdoor field-grown summer blooms, but it doesn't mean the creativity stops. At By The Bloom, the frost simply signals a change of pace.
Our hands are moving from the harvest buckets to the soil as we pivot to preparing the land and planting what will become next spring’s abundance.

Thank you for sharing in this outdoor season with us. Grown local, designed local, and loved right here in the valley. Our fields are resting, but the studio and greenhouses are just getting started. 🌿

FROM THE FARMER 🌿 | Monday, October 12

Our dahlias are still blooming strong, and thankfully, frost hasn’t made its way to the farm just yet! We’re enjoying every last bit of color the fields have to offer while making the most of these final weeks of the growing season.

Behind the scenes, we’re already looking ahead to 2027 and putting together our calendar of events. Our weekends are filling up quickly with wedding florals, and we’re so grateful for every couple choosing us to be part of their celebrations. ❤️

While we won’t be hosting private events at the farm next season, that doesn’t mean we won’t be gathering with you! We’ll still be offering workshops, hands-on learning, and farm experiences throughout the year. We love sharing what we do here, and we’re excited to find new ways to bring our community together.

One important thing to know: 2027 will be our first full season focused on flower production here in Pennsylvania. With more flowers to grow, more rows to manage, and more time dedicated to the fields, our classes, workshops, and other offerings will be limited.

But focusing on flower production doesn’t mean less room to enjoy the farm! 🌿 Our wildflower fields for u-pick and photo sessions have doubled in both seed and growing space, giving us even more to look forward to next season. We can’t wait to see those fields come to life and share them with you!

We’re also putting the finishing touches on plans for The Bloom Society, seasonal workshops, and more farm experiences for the coming year. There’s a lot to look forward to, and we can’t wait to share the details as our 2027 calendar comes together. When it goes live, be sure to take a look and book your spot!

For now, we’re soaking up these final dahlia blooms, preparing for the first frost, and dreaming about everything we’re growing toward in 2027.

We haven't had a severe freeze just yet, so we're making the most of these final beautiful blooms! 🌸

Starting Wednesday and continuing through Saturday this week, we're bringing our **large dahlia bouquets** into the farm shop at our special $25 market bouquet price!

These beauties are grown right here at By The Bloom Farm, and once they're gone, they're gone. Every bouquet is unique, filled with the dahlias our fields are still giving us.
