Up until now, I’ve never really cared much for Asters. 💜 It’s funny how a flower begins to grow on you, and it becomes one of your new favorites. While drawing off of my own photograph, I had the chance to really take a closer look at this beautiful bloom. Asters are pretty intricate and interesting flowers. I really enjoyed the process of layer colors, and paying attention to the tiny details. I hope you enjoy this drawing as much as I do. ✍🏽 🦋

Our Maximilian Sunflowers are just crawling with pollinators! 🌼🐝🌻 It’s always so nice to have sunflowers, cosmos and zinnias, for a pop of color in Autumn.🍂 This honeybee is super busy, flying from bloom to bloom! ✨ This was such a lucky shot! It’s especially hard to get a clear image, when the pollinators are on hyper drive. Trying to get the last bit of pollen and nectar from all our beautiful blooms. 🌸 🦋

I just finished my freehand drawing of the center of a Cosmos flower. ⭐️ I was slightly concerned about drawing such an intricate bloom, but I was up for the challenge! ✍🏽 I really like Cosmos flowers wispy and whimsical petals. There are so many colors and varieties of Cosmos. 🌼 My favorite part is that they add that needed pop of color, as Autumn starts and things begin to die back. 🍂 🦋

This is the first year that I’ve ever seen the Wasps going crazy on our Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa)! Did you know that Wasps are inadvertently pollinators? The pollen grains stick to their bodies by accident, as they travel from bloom to bloom. While they are mainly sugar seekers, so they feed on flower nectar for energy. Wasps have shorter mouthparts than many bees, so they like flowers with shallow centers like our Black Cohosh. 🤍🐝 🦋

Wax Begonias are grown as Annuals in colder climates like Wisconsin. ❤️💛 They are nice, because they have continuous blooms from Spring to frost. Begonias are known for their waxy leaves, and almost cartoon-like various colors and shaped flowers. This plant prefers morning sun, and afternoon shade, keeping soil moist. My neighbor friend Diana, grows varies colors almost every year, in her pretty potted plant arrangements. 🪴 I had fun drawing bigger with this piece. ✍🏽 This must be a sign, when I complete drawing #52 in my garden journal, it is time to draw BIGGER pieces! 🦋
