There is no strength without unity.

Last week, members of the EIS Marketing team volunteered at Milwaukee Irish Fest to support Hope House of Milwaukee.

Festivalgoers received free admission when they donated school supplies to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year. Our team collected and sorted the donations as they arrived, organizing everything for Hope House to distribute to the families it serves.

We enjoyed spending the day together while supporting a great cause! 📚✏️🎒

A design can look perfect on paper and still face unexpected challenges once construction begins.

Walls may not be where the drawings anticipated. An electrical panel may interfere with the planned layout. The footprint may be just different enough that standard furniture, millwork, or equipment no longer fits as intended.

For growing restaurant and retail brands, these conditions are not unusual. The challenge is to create a design that responds to them without losing the experience customers recognize.

According to our in-house experts, there are four important rules of scalable commercial design:

1. The design has to work in the real world.

Plans should account for the variation that comes with existing buildings, different footprints, and unexpected site conditions. Addressing that variation early helps teams avoid redesigning the space during construction.

2. Consistency doesn't mean everything is identical.

Consistency does not require every booth, cabinet, or counter to have the exact same measurements. It means identifying the elements that define the brand and maintaining them across locations.

3. Use adaptability to support consistency.

Small details can make a major difference. Filler panels can help cabinetry meet an existing wall cleanly. Furniture can be designed to adjust in size while maintaining the same profile, finish, and overall appearance. These solutions allow the design to adapt without having to start over at every location.

4. Consider durability from the beginning.

A material failure at one location can quickly become a program-wide issue. Materials and construction methods should be selected with real use, maintenance, and long-term performance in mind.
