Five hills we will die on. Design edition.
1. Natural stone over quartz.
Give me the movement, the variation, the imperfection. The fact that no two slabs will ever be exactly the same is kind of the point.
2. Cabinets to the ceiling.
When the architecture allows it, we’re going all the way up. More intentional, more finished, and no awkward little dust shelf pretending to be a design decision.
3. Oversized rugs. Always.
A rug should anchor the room, not float in the middle of it. When in doubt, go bigger.
4. Layer the lighting.
Sconces. Pendants. Lamps. Picture lights. A room needs different sources of light at different heights. Recessed lighting has a job, it just shouldn’t have every job.
5. Pay for quality now.
Buy fewer, better things. Good materials age; cheap ones get replaced. We’d rather design something you’ll still love ten years from now than something that photographs well for ten minutes.
Some things are trends. These are not.
