With the Winter Collection LIVE, I’m taking you behind the scenes with a glimpse into The Plant Penthouse from our Winter Catalog shoot!

As FLOR’s Guest Stylist for the Winter Collection, this experience has been the loveliest collaboration, allowing me to highlight my design personality while showcasing the incredible flexibility of FLOR.

✨Obsessed✨ is the only word that comes to mind when I saw the custom Heaven Sent design I created for my main living space! Using FLOR’s online Design Studio, I was able to enter my exact loft measurements and just get to dreaming (indecision, eliminated!)!☁ It opened an entirely new realm of possibility, allowing me to create a bespoke carpet tile design that tells a cohesive story while perfectly segmenting my open floor plan. And may we have a moment for Palm Reader in my bedroom?! (And yes, I’ll be recreating in Seattle😉)

With each year that passes, I’ve become hyper-focused on what we’re leaving for future generations. To know that I’m using FLOR tiles made with over 90% recycled materials is a real treat.♻💚 Did I mention these pieces are not only environment-forward, but “real-life” ready? (yes, they are WASHABLE!).

Sooooo…I did a thing🏡✌🏾🤠

After years of predicting from many of you Residents: YES, I’M MOVING. For real this time.😉

Because suspense is ✨not✨ my strong suit (shocker): I sold my condo at warp speed (alllll my thanks to 🙏🏾) and we’re packing up life x The Plant Penthouse for a fresh adventure in 🥁🥁🥁: ✨SEATTLE✨✈️🥰

In very Shayla whirlwind-fashion (🙋🏾‍♀️), when adventure calls, 99.999% of the time…we answer on the first ring.☎️✨ My soul is just wired that way, I suppose; and I’ve learned to embrace it with open arms.🤗

For some time now, I’ve felt like I left a piece of myself in the PNW. And being honest with myself, I’ve really (really) missed her.🤎 I’m so excited (and filled with all the 🦋🦋) to rediscover who that gal was, and also define where she’s headed for this next chapter of home.🤗

When I think of chapters of home, where do I even begin to describe what the last 6 years in Minneapolis have meant to me?🥹 We’ve celebrated together, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, we’ve planted seeds in politics together(📚🤠🌱), and lest we forget, we even solved sofagate together(😭🤣). And perhaps most special, we’ve grown in joy and purpose within these walls, together. All beyond my wildest DREAMS.🥺🪴🤎

There’s truly never enough time for proper goodbyes. I mean it when I say I love you so SO much. I just wish I had more time to tell each of you in person…🥹🫶🏾 BUT, do know you’re invited along for the ride in this next chapter. I just know it’s gonna be one for the books.🥰😘

I’m long winded (another shocker😂), so a proper memory lane is loading for another day(s)…💚

Nurturing joy✨

…and green thumbs, of course.😉💚

As you can tell, just put me in a room with some houseplants and the dynamic duo that is x (I love you both!) and joy is sure to abound.🥰🌱

There are moments in time when joy feels rebellious. I’d be remiss to say, we are in such a time. Reflecting on this (very unexpected) Plant Penthouse adventure, I find myself in a full-circle season to think our journey together began over 5 years ago(!!), during a familiarly ‘unprecedented’ time of yearning for happiness at home. It is forever my hope that through these doors, you find a warm moment of refreshing, nurturing, & growth to go forth and love on plants and people. I find that life is oh so much richer that way.🪴💚

The secret is officially out!🌿✨

Now that 2026 is finally here, I am so incredibly honored to share that I am the Guest Stylist for the Winter Catalog!🥹❄️

This partnership was such a dream because it allowed me to bring a vibrant, nature-forward vision to life in a way that feels both soulful and sustainable. What a difference a year makes🥹🪴✨

On this very night one year ago, I was on the edge of my seat awaiting the results of my run for Minneapolis school board (the ADRENALINE😆🤣), and tonight, I get to be on the edge of my seat for the most exciting reason: I’m on the ✨COVER✨ of the winter issue of Northern Gardener magazine!🥹🪴 EEEEEEEE!!!!! I also had the absolute honor of writing an article for this issue and can’t wait to share that with you all as well.🥹

Here’s to new beginnings✨

Where do I begin? While the ending to this chapter is still being written (…how does one so easily tie up years and giddy dreams into a finite, pretty package? I am still working on that…🌱), but I can easily say that this chapter has been one of my most rewarding yet.🤎

Moving out of the Plant Penthouse studio gave me the chance to reflect, grow, let go, and maybe most importantly, dream again.✨

This new season will be filled with (re)centering myself at home (my favorite place, truly😂), refreshing, and rediscovering. I’m so excited you’re still here, because the best is yet to come.🤗

As I was prepping to box thangs up for move-out, I decided I don’t want to pack a storage, so it all must go! All items are at lovely discounts if I do say so myself.😌

What’s for sale you ask? Planters, planters and more planters (brand new and gently used starting at $5 for smalls to $150 for the biiiiig guys), tablewares (Estelle colored glass, hi😘), misc decor (crate & barrel, room & board, jonathan adler, raawii, west elm, cb2, etc etc), rugs, and, of course, plants.😂 All plants from my plant wall will be $15 with the purchase of a pot of any size!🤗

When one door closes…

It is with great peace (truly, truly), that I must share I’ll be closing the doors to flagship creative studio (as I will not be renewing the lease) this August.🤎🌱

In many ways, I am returning to my roots. A coming home, so to speak. (Figuratively & literally…because the OG Plant Penthouse is in fact my house😂). I’ve never felt more like myself, and more sure of myself. For this, I am so very excited.🥹

As I began to reflect on and celebrate these first 5 years(!!) in business during my time ‘away in the garden’ (aka offline, with my flip phone😌😂✨), I allowed myself to define the aspects of this unexpected venture that I most enjoy nurturing (ie., providing accessible plant care + style musings via my blog…which is in dire need of deweeding!, biophilic design + styling services, & purpose-filled pursuits).

In this season, tending to a studio space has been admittedly absorbing far more energy from the healthy roots I took so much care to cultivate than I ever initially anticipated.🤎

I am a carrier of the ‘how hard could it be?!’ gene, and we know I like to do allll the things, and wake up with at least 5 new business ideas (🙋🏾‍♀️😂), but after taking a moment to breathe, I can honestly say that I am falling in love with simplicity and rest (formerly very outlandish concepts for me).🌻

Breathing life into that studio from the ground up (with all of you helping me!!😭🫶🏾), I’ve learned so SO much about myself, design, construction/contractors…timelines(🤣🤣), commercial spaces, and the list goes on. I am just beyond proud of what we created there.😭🤎 And the tile! Whoever gets the keys to the studio next will be inheriting the FINEST custom tile array-You’re welcome!😂

This fall, I’ll be unfurling what this freshly refined landscape looks like for myself and all of you as Residents.🍃 While my last day in the studio will be Aug 31, , as a brand & ethos, is growing with strong roots.🌳

There’s something to be said for clarity and momentum. The best is yet to come around here.🥰🏡
