Happy Birthday to Me
In My Life
I’ve known pain
I’ve known joy
I have grown from a child to a boy
I sang on Queen’s corners
I mourned with the mourners
I danced on the bridges of France
In My Life
Home was Castle with moat
Been Knight hero
Day goat
There were tears
There was laughter
Child -rainbows came after
Sipped ch*****ne
and spring water sublime
In My Time
I have dreamed by the River
Tried to be less taker, more giver
Thank heaven for friends, family,
My forever sweet wife
Thank God for my Life
That’s My Life
(So far…)

Dream state:
Remember?
Embrace

I saw you illuminating
the shadows of doubt
I could not repress
the primal urge to shout:
"Hey, you!"
"It's me!"
It's the end of the quest
Extinction of stress
Me-You
to hell with the rest.

"Would you like to dance?"
were the words others heard
Eye-to-eye appraisal
Accord,
A mutual trance.

I sang in your ear
sometimes sharp
other notes flat.
My dance steps?
A little of this
accented by that.

We swayed to laughter
We outlasted the song.
I took you home:
The city, the "burbs"
and the farm
A harvest of children
abundance of charm.

You somehow endured
I have somewhat "matured"
Me moth-You candle
Me careful-You strong
The dreamer-The light
together forever belong.

Another "train-inspired" metaphor:
On the right track?
write "quiet down" now.
Civility Express
(In Training)

The train horn "t***s".
Not a shout;
"Get out of my way!"
It speaks:
"Hi. Nice day.
Good to see you all again."
Easing away on soft wheel boots
Barely a creak.

Hearts want to whisper
Not shout:
"Glad you came by."
To reply with respect:
"Safe journey wherever."
"Come back when you can."

!Bolts! Moments of electric awareness, clarity, epiphanies
And stuff that holds other stuff together.
Life 101
We most often stumble when we are unsure of our direction.
There is no greater love than loving someone more than yourself.
Sharing happiness is preparation for sharing pain.
Lasting relationships are sustained as long as we strive to make each other better people.
If we cannot aspire to be better than we are, we have ceased living.
If I do not believe in myself, how can I believe in anything else?
All freedoms come with responsibilities.

Word Bridge

The river divides us
Too wide to swim across
Emotional current too strong
for raft or boat to navigate.

On the North Shore the need
for pure water to quench
the thirst for hope.
On the South Landing desperation
for sustenance to feed dreams.

An eagle envoy spans the void
It clutches in its talons
a blood-ink-stained bark shred.
The message?
"Dreams give life to hope.
"Hope is the manna of dreams.
Share your gifts."

More UnCommon Senses
(Sound Muses)
Soul Journey

I listen to tranquilizing classics
Debussy’s Clair de Lune transports
Mind, soul to a seaside terrace
Calm seas gently kiss limestone lips
Liquid whispers purge fear.

The rippling waters change stoic glare
Into vibrant, seductive invitation.
Think not on struggles
Dwell not on loss
Let the senses elevate spirit.
Rise above the plague of body
Drift beyond the gravity of doubt
Dare to skysail to an unknown port.

Navigate through star-filled heavens
Commit to your untainted impulse
There waits the haloed Mother;
Her whisper only you can hear:
"Welcome to your place of peace."

Just found an old pair of glasses.
I see better already!

Mentor moment: Life- Point of View
"Life is enchanting. We need only to find the right glasses to see it." ( Alexandre Dumas) My best attempt at translation.
OptimEyes

When the rains come
I see the grasses greening
The flowers drinking
The birds bathing.

When the snow falls
I see the critters scurrying
The snowmen rising
The snow angels flying.

When the wind blows
I see the clouds bumping
The trees swaying
The waters waltzing.
When the sun comes
I see the hopes growing
The dreamers reaping
The radiant faces smiling.

I close my eyes.

Air A-parent

You lift
the dead petal burden
from the grounded butterfly.
It sighs
Dips its wings
Gleefully flies skyward.
No longer will it take
Its gift of flight
Your gift of kindness
For granted.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers."
(Langston Hughes)
Rivers
(the power of passion and commitment)

Trickling source
A pool of contemplation
Thoughts willing their way to the surface
Spilling over crusted earth
Thirsty grasses, weeds, and stone
That would constrain it
As a stagnant swamp.

Bubbling down the hillside
Now a brook
Rushing with joy and certainty
toward an unknown destination
Swelling with love
Broadening sumptuary banks
Deepening its bedrock purpose.

Now a vital force
Twisting through the drought lands,
Cynicism and despair.
Listen as the waters sing
Discernible decibels of inspiration
Liquid hope to replenish
the arid, parched soul.

Rivers have always been a source of inspiration.
The Maas (or Meuse) was a constant liquid reminder of the
connectivity of cultures during our years in the Netherlands.
The Mississippi River is unrelenting in its journey from northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. It passes by our little village
of Pepin, Wisconsin, where it "pauses" to form the widest natural expanse, and transports my imagination to destinations not found on maps.

Stronger-Longer
write now! Edit never?
Adam After Eden

It took me a little longer
to walk.
I just did not see the reason
Why risk the fall?
It took me a little longer
to talk.
I did not see the reason
They came at my call.
Being near to the ground
I could see and smell
the flowers so near
Hungry "rumble" bee
was my only fear.
Being still most of the time
Gave me more time to listen
Learn the words of the song
That one day, someday
I might sing-along.
It took me a little longer
to walk
But I did learn
to run
And it's true that I won
My share of Special Olympics' gold
On the podium, I glowed
like the Florida Sun.
Yeah, it took me a little longer
not really that much
I spoke quite good English
Had conversations in Dutch.
I did learn the words of the songs
I loved to be part of the sing-alongs.
It made most everyone smile
A few even cried?
It gave me a real sense of pride.
There were many things
I learned, I dreamed
I did!
My memory never let me forget
Names, words, dates, places,
Gifts, kind deeds, laughing faces.
It took me a little longer
Time made me stronger.
