A stager’s job is to draw buyers in. I do it by trusting my instincts and the rules I’ve built over time.
One of my rules is this: when a home has a distinctive style, don’t stage in that style. This home is traditional, which equates to a more formal vibe. The buyer that loves traditional is already interested in the home — my job is to attract the buyers that aren’t. To relax and brighten things up, I took the staging in a more organic direction: natural white oaks, lots of stems, a cozy sectional, and banana leaf chairs. Why settle for traditional or contemporary when you can have both?
The other challenge was the main-floor primary bedroom. When the primary is on a separate level from the kids bedrooms, it can feel like an empty-nester home. To make it more appealing to families, I opted for a giant, modular sectional in the living room that says, “kick off your shoes and settle in for family movie night.” I can’t change a home’s architecture, but I can change its story. Buyers won’t look back on this place as the formal home, they’ll remember it as the family home. Because what people fall in love with isn’t the structure, it’s the life they can see themselves living inside it.
