Hardware, appliances, countertops, oh my!

The concept behind this house was a blending of worlds, the New Mexican dessert and “copper country” of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While the project is located in the UP, the clients spent their grad school years in Albuquerque, falling in love with the turquoise colors and geometric designs of the area. I love how this stained white oak turned out and the copper hardware really pops against the vibrant grain. Soon to come: a patina’ed copper backsplash!

Just got back from the most wonderful family vacation this past week. It was so needed - life has handed us a few challenges lately and it was so life-giving to connect as a family and remember what matters most🥰

We absolutely loved Savannah and Hilton Head Island and all the beautiful nature and architecture. I can’t wait to return some day :)

Design Presentation: Sent ✔️

It’s always a flood of emotions when I send off a design presentation. Giddiness, hopefulness, a sense of accomplishment. There’s the excitement I get for my clients to see the potential of their spaces, yet nerves as I hope I’ve captured their vision and goals and brought meaningful ideas to the table. There’s so much pride I have in the work I’ve done, but I also experience some relief to have something taken off my plate. Is this how everyone feels about their work, or am I just highly passionate about what I do and in an emotional state still as a postpartum mom?? 🤣

Let me start by saying I’m no architect! But I sure can help you visualize your options with the help of a team, whether that’s your architect or contractor💪

I think it’s so important to think holistically about spaces. An addition might look great on the exterior, but doesn’t add enough interior value. Or, a floor plan may work well and meet your needs, but the exterior looks off. Finding a balance between exterior & interior is so key to make sure the investment you put into your addition is worthwhile.

Thinking about an addition? I can help you study floor plans, head heights, window placement etc to ensure that we’re hitting all the bullet points.

Where do you fall?

You’ve probably seen a million posts about what’s “in” and what’s “out” as the year has started, but I don’t think it’s quite as simple as that. I really do think that there’s a time and place to use most materials and colors (yes, even the “out” whites and beiges!).

What I truly think is most important is that YOU love your space and it makes you feel the way you want to feel in it, regardless of what trends say.

This kitchen needs to keep a relatively similar footprint as existing, but we’re going to make it much more functional, updated, and streamlined. As I’ve been designing, I’ve been playing around with photorealistic renderings and it makes me wonder…

As a client, do you want to see your images with more left to envision, or do you want things as photorealistic as possible? As a designer, do you see benefit to one or the other? Let me know your thoughts below!
