This logging wagon (circa 1890) was generously donated to the museum by Joe Hanson. Before that, it was used by the Anaconda Company to transport logs as part of the Anaconda Smelting Operation.

Heavy and solid, these wagons were an invaluable tool for loggers throughout Montana and other parts of the country. Under Marcus Daly, the Anaconda Company established one of the largest smelters in Montana at the time, five times larger than smelters in nearby Butte. Even today, Anaconda is known as "Smelter City", even if Daly's original smelters have been decommissioned.

The Jotul No. 404 cook stove was first designed in 1952 with the goal of providing consumers with an efficient, reliable, and fast way to cook and bake. The No. 404 is fitted with two hot plates, with the option to use the top of the flue cover as a third if needed.

With the explosion of the Y2K phenomenon in the late 90's, Jotul reissued the No. 404, offering a way for consumers to cook and heat their homes that didn't require electrical power.

A number of these unique stoves were sold here at Axmen, and even two and a half decades later, you can find a piece of recent history right inside our front door.
