Remembering one of my favorite conversations about art with Ken Wilber, he said “The purpose of truly transcendent art is to express something you are not yet, but something that you can become.” Can you imagine that you could become a better person by making a certain kind of painting or deeply seeing the art of a spiritually inspired artist? I love that idea. It is like the Bodhichitta intention to become liberated for the sake of all beings including yourself. When you are painting images that point toward the enlightened state, the intention is to plant a seed of awakening in the mindstream of every viewer, including yourself.
