Interior design preferences in 2026 sees homeowners choosing colors and styles that embrace their personal preferences - something I've always recommended - rather than designing with an eye toward eventual resale. This is a trend I'm happy to say is maintaining its strength - there's nothing better than being surrounded by design that gives you joy and comfort.💖

I've always encouraged clients to use their cherished heirloom pieces rather than storing them away, out of sight and forgotten. A recent article in Houzz said this is now a trend - designing with pieces rich in family history and "personal storytelling."

In this primary bedroom, we carved out a special niche for a unique Deco-era vanity, then added to the eclectic look of the contemporary Wedgwood blue room with treasured heirloom lamps. Combining eras can create a more interesting and deeply personal space that homeowners can enjoy for years to come.

One of the interior design trends for 2026 that's expected to have staying power beyond 2027 is warm earth colors and materials like wood, sage, and mushroom. In fact, Houzz states that warm tones are "less of a trend and more of a foundation for home design." This great room from one of my projects is a good example of how you can let the natural beauty of wood add warmth in so many ways.

Banquettes aren't just for restaurants - they're perfect for corners or cozy alcoves in kitchens and dining rooms. They optimize space, provide comfort, and increase seating capacity. And they work beautifully with any type of decor, from traditional to transitional to contemporary.

Tray ceilings can take on lots of different forms - this multi-layered tray ceiling adds a unique dramatic effect to the dining room, with rich crown moldings in white against varying shades of gray.

👨‍👨‍👧‍👦The family room in this contemporary open floor plan home was designed as an inviting gathering space that flows seamlessly into the surrounding living areas. It creates a connected environment ideal for both entertaining and everyday family life. The timeless tailored feel of the comfortable sectional sofa anchors the seating arrangement.

Ceilings - the fifth wall - are just as important as the other four walls in every room (you'll see more about this in my upcoming August Substack post). In this family room, warm teak tongue-and-groove slats extend seamlessly across the barrel ceiling, creating a continuous linear effect that enhances the home’s contemporary architectural character. We chose a dramatic oversized LED pendant for sculptural interest, complementing the dynamic ceiling.
