Founded by Alex & Connie Matisse and John Vigeland, East Fork began as one potter, then two, then a few more, throwing clay and filling a wood-fired kiln on an old tobacco farm in Madison County, North Carolina. Much has changed in the last decade, but our early days laid the foundation for the company we are today. Today East Fork Pottery is one of a small handful of domestic manufacturers of cer
amic dinnerware in business. We make our pottery in Asheville, North Carolina from regional clays, and develop all our colors in house. We have stores in Asheville and Atlanta, but most of our sales are online and “direct to consumer," with a team of about 125 folks across all departments. This past April we raised our minimum wage to $22/hour in a state that still maintains the federal minimum of $7.25/hr. While we’re proud of the work we’ve done so far to provide viable employment opportunities ,the living wage in Asheville is skyrocketing, with many lifelong or longtime Asheville residents getting priced out. There’s a lot of work to do regionally to create a more just economy and community where all residents can thrive. We enthusiastically stand behind the product we make! It’s durable, lead-free, looks gorgeous on pretty much every table, and is made with a lot of intention.
