Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how it all started.

This photo was taken on the last day of a very special wine tour through Tuscany — the final stop being Tenuta Tignanello in San Casciano in Val de Pesa. If you know, you know.

Something about those last few days — the wines, the light, the land — had made a decision for me. I came home and left a five-year job that had slowly taken everything out of me.

I didn’t know what was next. I just knew it wasn’t that.

A few months later, the world shut down. A role I had lined up fell through. And somewhere in the stillness of 2020, Unwined was born.

Some journeys don’t make sense until you’re already in the middle of them. This one is still unfolding. 🤍🇮🇹

This is where it started.

Not the brand — the brand started quietly, in 2020, in Montclair, alone in my condo, with nothing but time, a fragrance background, and something I needed to say. But this — Unwined actually being out in the world, in someone else’s hands, on someone else’s shelf — that started here. And was part of that from the beginning.

I’ve been walking through Jen’s shop since 2021, watching it grow into something really special. She made space for Unwined early, introduced this brand to people who didn’t even know they were looking for it yet. That kind of support — from another small business owner who just gets it, and who has become a real friend along the way — means everything.

I stopped in last week and was so happy to see the candles and diffusers front and center. I’m restocking her this week — and with Mother’s Day on Sunday, the timing couldn’t be better. If you’re in Montclair, go see Jen. If you’re not, you know where to find us. 🌿

Every scent starts somewhere. For these, it was Tuscany.

The Signature Collection is three fragrances rooted in Tuscany — each one a different moment, a different mood, a different corner of Italy worth returning to.

These photos have been sitting on my phone for years — and I go back to them all the time. Not to edit them. Just to be there again for a minute. There’s something about a photograph that can actually put you back in a place. These ones do that for me. At some point I realized they weren’t just memories I was holding onto. They were worth sharing.

It makes sense that fragrance has always done this for me as well. It returns you to places you’ve loved — and introduces you to places you haven’t found yet. A photograph is no different. Both are just different ways of traveling without moving.
