Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year!
Montrose Veterans Memorial takes two giant leaps forward!
Montrose, Colo. – Important update: We are happy to say the Montrose Veterans Memorial construction process has started!
In early December Montrose Veterans Memorial Coalition board of directors, City of Montrose public works director Jim Scheid, Phil Motley from Motley Architecture, and representatives from Del-Mont Consultants and Bighorn Consulting Engineers gathered at the site of the memorial to discuss the business of basic infrastructure.
The meeting resulted in agreement to begin with bringing electricity and fiber to the building sight. Like a Christmas miracle, several days later that process was started and completed.
During the same meeting the MVMC board asked that the site be cleared of weeds and prepared for dirt work. Earlier last week that process began with improving the parking area in front of the memorial and cleaning up weeds and old fencing. The location now has a completely different look.
This effort by City of Montrose crews is the first dirt turned since we started the project nearly two years ago. Thanks to the city staff involved including Scheid, and Steve Salazar, who was seen onsite moving big equipment late last Thursday, Dec. 19.
Coinciding with this wonderful activity at the memorial site was another leap forward. The MVMC made the first down payment to PG Memorials for the engraved black granite panels depicting military images and benches that will make this park into a memorial.
The next step will be to post the project for bidding.
We are grateful to the many donors who have supported us through this process – it is really moving along now! If you would like to get in on the excitement, please visit www.montrosevmc.us to donate now, or write a check to MVMC and drop it in the mail or in person at 4 Hillcrest Plaza Way, Montrose CO 81401.
The MVMC is a 501c3 and is eligible for Colorado Enterprise Zone tax benefits for donations over $500.
We thank all of our donors and supporters for helping us get to this point. We could not do this without you all, and a big thank you to the city and the county once again.
Sincerely,
Les Williams
MVMC BOD President
