What I wish my bouquet photos looked like…
vs. what they actually look like. 😅

I can grow the flowers. I can arrange the flowers. But somehow I pull out my phone and the gorgeous bouquet in front of me does NOT translate to the photo.

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” 🌱

Some days, progress is easy to see. The flowers bloom. The sale comes through. The project gets finished. The goal gets checked off.

Other days are for planting.

Sending the email. Having the conversation. Learning something new. Tending the garden. Encouraging someone. Taking one small step toward something that matters.

We don’t always get to see right away what will grow from the things we do today.

Harvest to Vase is a live, online floral design workshop created especially for backyard flower growers. Bring flowers straight from your garden and follow along as professional floral designer Amber Mustain teaches you how to turn what you’re growing into a beautiful, balanced arrangement.

You’ll learn simple floral design techniques you can use again and again, whether you’re arranging flowers for your own kitchen table, giving them to a friend, or selling bouquets to customers.

We hosted this workshop earlier this summer and had so much fun that we’re doing it again!

We played this guessing game at a startup fair this week, and it was so much fun we thought we’d play it here too. 🌸

These two bouquets have very different stories.

One was:
🌱 Grown in Colorado
✂️ Harvested this week
🚗 Traveled just a few miles
🌿 Grown without chemical sprays
👩‍🌾 Grown by a local flower grower

The other was:
🌎 Grown in Colombia
✂️ Harvest date unknown
✈️ Traveled thousands of miles
🧪 What it was sprayed with: unknown
👩‍🌾 Who grew it: unknown

But which is which?

“If you see someone without a smile today, give ’em yours.” — Dolly Parton

In remembrance of Dolly, this feels like such a beautiful way to honor the light she brought into the world.

She gave us so much more than music. She gave kindness freely. She made people laugh. She encouraged people to dream bigger. She used what she had to lift others up, and somehow always seemed to leave people feeling a little lighter than she found them.

Maybe that’s one of the loveliest ways we can remember someone: by carrying a little of what they gave us forward.

So today, give someone your smile. Offer the kind word. Notice the person who might need a little extra kindness. Be generous with your joy.

Every beautiful bouquet starts with 5 simple ingredients:

🌸 Focal flowers — the stars of the arrangement
🌿 Line flowers — add height, movement, and shape
🌼 Medium flowers — fill in the design and add color
✨ Filler flowers — bring texture and help everything flow together
🌱 Foliage — creates the foundation and gives your flowers room to shine

Once you learn to recognize these five ingredients, arranging flowers from your own garden gets so much easier.

That’s exactly what we’ll practice in Harvest to Vase, our live online floral design workshop with floral designer Amber Mustain.
