Ben Saxon of Moriarty has won a 1993 Peggy Award from Popular Ceramics Magazine for a bowl inspired by ancient Mimbres designs. Often, he and his father would visit the Cherokee reservation. Loving the desert environment, he eventually married a Navajo girl. They had four children. Always being interested in potting, he bega

n to make pottery from a "white mud hole" near his house. He has defined his craft to solely Black On Black with Mimbres designs. He has won Best of Show and First Premium ribbons for his ceramics at the New Mexico State Fair, the New Mexico Ceramic Assn. Show, Torrance County Fair, and many other shows. Natural clays are specially blended together to create a high quality white pottery which serves as an excellent vehicle for the artist's expressions.
